Weird spotting but no period - pregnant or miscarriage?

Hi all,

So - me and hubby and currently TTC (both in our early thirties, with no known health issues). I’m currently on roughly DPO 11, with no sign of AF yet (but AF due any day now).

For the past couple of days, I’ve had this very strange spotting - super light, watery, only when I wipe mostly (I got a few drops on my underwear on Friday evening but nothing much). Started Friday afternoon and it’s been mostly on and off for the last 48 hours.

I conceived back in January but spotted for five whole days before my period came, and it turns out I’d had a chemical without realising. So my question is: is it possible to have light spotting for more than a day or two and still be pregnant? Or does it mean anything bad? It’s our first time TTC so I’m new to the whole malarkey. I’ve attached a pic of what it looks like for reference (the one where the discharge is a bit brighter and pink is from Friday, the others are from yesterday and today).

(Other symptoms are some of the usual symptoms of hormones in action: nausea, tender breasts, frequent urination, headache, cramps etc).

Thanks for your help!

Have you done a test? An early detection one should show up by now. X

I don’t have any early detections unfortunately. My local shop only sells the rapid detection ones, or those cheapie ones you can get. I got some of those as I don’t want to be spending a fortune on fancy tests if it’s not to be!

Also I’ve checked online, and if I ordered a set of early detection tests then they won’t arrive for another few days anyway

Hi, I'm not much help on this as I've been having the exact same! My spotting is the same as well as the additional symptoms etc and I'm on the combined pill as we aren't actively trying and accidentally missed a day. Did you end up taking a test? I feel like I need to do one even though I only missed the one pill

Thanks - I ended getting AF, after spotting on and off for a few days. I was on the pill until July though and never spotted on that, as far as I recall. My GP had always told me that if you miss one, you should still be protected unless it happens to be the first day after a pill free week. It’s missing two or more in a row that can lead to “accidents”.

Which pill are you on, if you don’t mind my asking? I still had monthly bleeds on mine, due to not taking it for a week (I was overall fairly good at taking it and always had back up protection too, until we TTC a few months ago).

I’d say if you’re due a bleed, wait to see if it shows and if it doesn’t then take a test? Or if you get some more spotting, then maybe test too?

Thanks so much, I'm on Rigevidon I do usually take it at the same time everyday I'd just accidentally forgotten to take one so I'm sure I'll be fine it's just odd as I've never spotted before apart from before my MC in Dec. I also usually take it back to back which is making me think I probably should've had a break and maybe that's where the spotting has came from

Pianogirl1994 · 26/03/2025 12:40

My GP explained that the risk of ovulation happening occurs when there’s been a break in taking a pill for more than 7 days (which is why the “standard” pills are 21 days on then 7 days off). I’m no expert, but maybe if you weren’t getting those hormones for a day it would be enough to cause spitting? A doctor probably would know more, but I know that when I took mine (I used a few different brands, including Rigevidon for a short while), I’d start feeling hormonal symptoms the day I stopped taking them.

Are yours the 21-day ones or 28-day? (They work in the exact same way, just that 28-day ones have the last 7 pills of the pack as placebo, so as to create the same effect as the 21-day ones). I suppose you could always take a test and see, to put your mind at rest? If it’s been more than a few weeks since you forgot the pill and DTD then it should be enough time to show on a test.

Best of luck to you!
