Transvaginal scan - help and advice on results

JoCM · 12/03/2025 12:25

I have a transvaginal scan next week, and AMh blood test, but unfortunately the consultation isn’t until 8 weeks later.

It is the consultant doing the scan - if anyone else has had one, will they be likely to talk me through what they see/find at the time?

I had to cancel an earlier one which I am now really regretting

What are they looking for, and are you NHS or private? X

JoCM · 12/03/2025 12:39

@Mrsttcno1 it is private but it is done at an NHS facility - so the self funded route.
its an initial consultant as have been ttc for a while, so to see if there might be an underlying reason why. Since I booked it have also had some spotting im a bit concerned about

@JoCM I have had 2 transvaginal scans (one privately and one with the NHS) and both times it's been a nurse but they have talked me through what they see and find. I have just having fertility tests though

That’s great, thank you. Was there any extra information you got from the consultation or did you get everything you needed at the scan?

I've had a few transvaginal scans over the years (not fertility related), all NHS and all done by nurses - they have all talked me through what they were seeing at the time and I left each one knowing what was going on. Hope your appointment goes well.

@SingingGoldfinch thank you that’s really helpful, was just quite worried about the 2 month wait for results!

I personally got all the information I needed but everything was normal for me.

ive had one done (not for fertility) with the NHS. She talked through as in what she was doing, but not what she’d seen or found. I wish I’d asked at the time - but she didn’t say anything without being prompted

Btowngirl · 15/03/2025 19:22

I’ve had loads throughout fertility and they’ve always talked through it all. They can’t advise on how to proceed though so that will probably be your consultation. 2 month wait is a pain though, if self funding I would want to be seen quicker. Our clinic would put me in with the consultant right after the scan. Good luck with it all!

I’ve had 2 done by nurses and one done by a consultant in the NHS. By far the consultant gave me the most information at the time of the scan. She was really in depth with the scan, gave me a lot more information and even showed me the screen to show me a small cyst etc. So if you have a consultant doing it and there’s no major issues, the likelihood is they will give you quite a bit of info on the day. It totally depends on the consultant, what they find and how much info they are allowed to give. I even requested if she could do the follow up the week later and she was so lovely she put me in her diary to come and speak to me and do the internal check herself. So hopefully you will have a consultant just as understanding and I’d hope as your private, you’ll get some answers on the day too!
