How quickly did you feel symptoms in early pregnancy?

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to know if anyone has any stories of feeling pregnant or changes in some way in the body early on before your missed period?

My partner and I started trying this cycle and had sex on day 7, 11 and 12 of my cycle. I have a feeling from previously monitoring ovulation symptoms over the years that I ovulate earlier than day 14 and more like somewhere between day 9-12.

Anyway, I don’t know if I’m going mad but my body has started to feel weird these last 3-4 days with symptoms I’ve never had before, such as a stretching style feeling in my womb and electric shock style feelings too. I’ve also had bad lower back pain the last couple of days, random joint pains and sometimes I feel like my taste is a little metallic.

I’m currently on day 19 now and I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this in the past and then got a positive result? I know this could all be a very long shot and maybe it’s all just my imagination, but my body just feels so odd at the moment.

Also, how reliable are these early detection tests? I’ve bought one to use next weekend as on Saturday I’ll be 3 days away before my period is due. Is this a reliable time?

Any advice would be appreciated. It would be amazing if the first try was successful but I just don’t know if I’m getting my hopes up unnecessarily.

I felt like utter death long before I did a test. DH was working in the US and I was staying with friends in a different country so didn’t want to test till we were both at home, but I knew I was either pregnant or about to die, I felt so exhausted.

Thanks for your quick response! Yeah I just don’t feel right in myself and at first I actually thought I was going to get a UTI, as the initial cramping I got felt similar but then it soon changed about 12 hours later to this stretching feeling.

I've never had symptoms in any of my pregnancies 🤷‍♀️

DramaAlpaca · 02/03/2025 23:37

I've had three babies. With all of them I 'just knew' from about four days before my period was due. It was back in the olden days before early testing was available, so I didn't test until I was a week late. By which time I was certain and it was just confirmation. I had a very regular cycle, ovulating around day 14. A metallic taste in my mouth, heightened sense of smell and veiny boobs were the earliest signs.

No early symptoms here with either pregnancy. In fact, the months where I had every 'pregnancy' symptom and was absolutely convinced I was pregnant, I never was
The times I was pregnant, I'd written the month off as I just felt completely normal and that AF was about to arrive at any moment.

Both times my first symptoms were sore boobs and an aversion to coffee around the time my period was due.

First pregnancy - everything else came at 7+ weeks.
Second pregnancy - the rest came about 5.5 weeks.

My only symptom before testing was super sore boobs. Like before my period but worse.

Not till 6-7 weeks when the morning sickness started
up until then I felt nothing apart from the odd period type cramp

LittlePositanoLemon · 03/03/2025 07:25

I felt sore cramping, which is unusual for me, a couple of days before I tested. So around 12dpo. Also felt really bloated and went off a lot of food that week.

Ivylilac · 03/03/2025 08:37

Thanks for your responses everyone! I’m probably just getting ahead of myself then by the sounds of it. I’ll put it out my mind until I can test next week :)

Suddenly when you start trying you are more in tune with different twinges and cramps that you wouldn’t have thought twice about before
it can drive you mad- try and wait for a late period if you can

Yeah you’re right, I’m definitely overanalysing more than I normally would. I think being my first time trying I just have no idea what to expect, so it’s hard to not assume every twinge, cramp and odd feeling isn’t an early sign! I’ll wait until my period is due and try and ignore it all for now :)

I used temp measurements to track fertility.

First pregnancy:

  • for about 1 hour I felt like I was being stabbed repeatedly by a knitting needle in the same spot about 10 days post DTD in my uterus and a bruised feeling the next day
  • my temp shot up and stayed up after the stabbing pain
  • 1 week after the stabbing pain my nipple developed a wrinkly complexion

Second pregnancy:

  • my temp shot up and stayed up day approx 10 days after DTD
  • no other symptoms
emmatcc1 · 03/03/2025 14:35

My first symptoms both pregnancies were intense sharp pains in my uterus (implantation pain) and then very sore nipples a couple days after that. Also loose stools around when af was due.

Disneydatknee88 · 03/03/2025 15:06

Sore boobs were my earliest indicator. It was the excruciating pain I felt one day of the seat belt against my chest. I just knew something was up. I tested as soon as I got home and got a positive. I think I was 3-4 weeks according to the test. Was a while ago though!
