TTC: can pre-menstrual spotting prevent pregnancy?

Hi,

I’m looking for some advice (or maybe reassurance 🤞🏼) on spotting before my period, please. I’d be really grateful to hear of other experiences.

I’m 30 years old and have been TTC #1 for almost 2 years with no luck, not even a sniff of a positive pregnancy test. Both myself and my husband have had all the fertility tests/scans and nothing has been flagged as a concern.

The one thing that is out of the normal (I think) is my pre-menstrual spotting. I usually start spotting around 9dpo and it gets gradually heavier over about 4 days until my period arrives. For context, my cycles are 28 days, ovulating on day 15.

I was really concerned about low progesterone as I’ve read that this can often be the culprit. However, I had a progesterone blood test 7dpo and the result came back as 40 nmol/L which the doctor said confirms ovulation. The doctor actually wasn’t concerned at all about the spotting but suggested that, given how long we’ve been trying, IVF is recommended.

Has anyone else had this before? Did you manage to get any answers? Did you still manage to conceive? TTC is an emotional rollercoaster and, at 2 years in, I’m desperate to understand why it isn’t happening for us.

Have u had your tubes checked ?

Id say get a private hyfosy
( approx 515 gbp)

Additionally -
Have u heard of hertility health

They test amh / ovarian reserve
Which nhs does not.

Id also ask NHS for a transvaginal scan to check structural
Ie fibroid s etc

Also
Check nhs gp has tested all the below blood tests
Crp
Prolactin
Thyroid
Feretin
Vit d
B12

Also - how fast your blood clots

Hi, I generally spot 3 days before my period fully kicks in, conceived 5 times with it!

@worldwidetravel2017 Thanks for this - really helpful. Out of your suggestions, I haven’t had the AMH or Vit D test, and I haven’t had a Hycosy either, just a regular ultrasound. I’m guessing a Hycosy can detect more so I’ll get back on at the doctors.

@LaTable This is so reassuring - thank you! Can I ask, did you spot on the cycles you were pregnant?
