Pregnant after taking morning after pill

Hello , So I took the morning after pill called Levonorgestrel , I am in the correct weight bracket that’s required for it and taken it in the required time but just found out I’m pregnant which was a huge shock.

I already have 3 children 8,2and 1. I never saw myself with a third child never mind a fourth as both were unexpected. We only have a small 3 bed house and would have to change the car which is weighing on my mind if we carried on with the pregnancy , worrying about finances ect.

Im also panicking if the baby will be ok with me taking the morning after pill? Will it have any effect on the baby or cause any problems? I’ve rang the doctors and midwife’s but neither will tell me nor give me any information as I ordered the morning after pill offline from pharmica they just tell me to ring a different number and I just don’t get anywhere.

We are unsure what to do for the best , obviously a 4th child wasn’t on the cards but I don’t know if I could go through a abortion again as I had one when I was 16 (I’m now 30) and it really had a bad effect on my mental health and I never truly got over it even though at that time, it was for the best. My partner is very supportive and has said the decision is entirely up to me and we can make it work if we decide to go through with it.

so firstly has anyone had a healthy pregnancy from the morning after pill?

and honest opinions do you think it’s fair on the other children having another baby?

Im Battling what to do for the best.

If you never truly got over the abortion you had before, and your main concern is already the health of the baby after taking the MAP then I don't think you should have an abortion. Cars and houses can change, but you would have to live with that decision forever.

It is obviously up to you, but in your post you sound both conflicted and also as though you already care about the baby. I don't think you should abort unless you're certain.

FWIW I've known two friends have babies after MAP - both fine. It works by delaying ovulation but if you were already too close to O, or just had then it can't stop it and it can't do anything. NHS advice is so known negative affects if it doesn't work for a baby.

Unfortunately I have been in this situation twice. The first is now a very healthy, strapping 14 year old. The most recent (around 3 years ago) after much soul searching ended in termination. I am sorry you are in this situation, but just to reassure you if you do decide to continue with the pregnancy, that as the poster above said there are no know side effects regarding MAP affecting a pregnancy.

I have a friend who got pregnant very soon after her first baby, and she only ever planned one. She took the morning after pill and it failed. She now has a perfectly healthy son. I know this is just anecdotal but I haven't heard of any issues following from pregnancies when the mother took the MAP.

It is nobody else's place to advise re your overall situation but whatever you decide, I wish you the very best. It's good that your partner is being supportive but such a difficult decision to make.

I got pregnant off the morning after pill, dd is 20 and absolutely fine. She was my first child and was such a shock as I didn't find out till I was 12 weeks gestation.

Wish you luck in whatever you decide is best to do

The way the map works won't affect a foetus once it's fertilised and implanted.
