As the title said, I'm just curious about the things you did whilst TTC that you believe helped you conceive...
I am currently thinking about TTC baby no2, already have DS, who is 2, who we struggled to conceive after 2 miscarriages and a lot of trying all the old wives' tales.
Just wondering what you think helped you? 🤔

Gave up caffeine

Imisschocolate17 · 31/12/2024 23:26

Gave up tracking and instead got on it every other day (at least) throughout the whole month, no guessing dates just covered all time bases. It worked, twice in a row after years of failures. Both times we found that I had conceived way later than ovulation tracking would have had me believe

Orgasms (they make the cervix lengthen and scoop up the sperm)!

Clear blue ovulation sticks with the smiley face.

Tracking ovulation and getting my gut health sorted by taking probiotics (I had bad IBS and both my successful pregnancies happened when that was in a good place)

Pre-seed gel, tracking ovulation, lifting up legs after sex

neonbluedog · 01/01/2025 00:33

I was 40 and desperate to get pregnant asap with my second. It took 5 cycles. What I did:
I was the fittest/slimmest I've ever been.
I tracked ovulation with strips (cheap and the Clearblue smiley ones), temping (I had the Ava fertility bracelet thing), checking cervical mucous, and apps (I used 3 apps).
We had sex according the the Sperm Meet Egg plan (didn't follow this 100% but as close as we could).
We both took conception vitamins.
I ate pineapple cores.
We used conception lube.
I tried to orgasm too and then kept my legs up afterward.
I fully stopped breastfeeding my toddler.

Turned off my caps lock. I'm convinced that helped.

Operation to remove some of my endometriosis adhesions following 4 years of infertility, miscarriages, an ectopic pregnancy and tube removal. Fun times. Couldn't face trying again after having my beautiful dd. Still hurts to think about the losses over a decade later but very grateful she's here

AliceinSlumberland · 01/01/2025 01:06

We tried for nearly two years and then I did baby aspirin and the cough syrup thing and got pregnant, could just be chance but worked for me!

Bicycle legs! I was lucky enough to conceive first month trying and when we were thinking about trying I read that laying on your back, with your hips tilted up after doing the deeds and kicking your legs in the air as though you are riding a bicycle, would help the sperm get passed the cervix to the egg. I did that when we tried and was lucky enough to conceive straight away. Also told my friend who then confided that they had been trying for a while after I announced my pregnancy and the following month they conceived. Told another friend when they were trying and same month they fell pregnant.

im not saying conceiving is as easy as this, there will of course be other factors but my friends and I have had success with it!

Absolutely no idea if it actually helped or not but it was our first cycle using the fertility cup. DS was IVF after 24 cycles and it was fifth cycle trying for number 2. Ended up with a smaller gap than expected but delighted.

Same for us, TTC for a year.. one MC and then first cycle using fertilily and I'm now 8 weeks so hoping it's a sticky bean

Thankyou everyone for your replies.
Might just try everything 🤣

Can i just give a big shout out to @LisaJohnsonsFacebookMole
who obviously doesn't get out much, so craves attention by posting stupid comments on other peoples posts for a reaction...so here you go....What a sad little life👏

You name it we tried it.

We ended up having IVF for unexplained fertility. After 2 failed cycles the only thing we changed before our BFP was I had Accupuncture. No idea if it made a difference or not but I would do it again if we wanted more children.

It's a funny thing, isn't it. Causation or coincidence? It won't harm to try any of these things, who knows what makes it finally work?
It makes sense to be in good health, though.

Borninabarn32 · 01/01/2025 08:56

Focused on enjoying sex together rather than having sex to get pregnant. Looked after our bodies, no smoking or drinking.

SallyWD · 01/01/2025 09:05

Using the Clearblue ovulation testing thing.

FrenchandSaunders · 01/01/2025 09:08

Antihistamines. Had been trying for 4 years … the summer I conceived I had horrendous hay fever. Dosed up on antihistamines and fell pregnant with twins.

A friend is convinced it was the antihistamines 🤷🏼‍♀️

curious79 · 01/01/2025 09:10

Lots of random sex and not ‘trying’
it soon becomes a chore if it’s all about pregnancy

CurlewKate · 01/01/2025 09:15

Whatever makes you feel in control and confident. Check to make sure there isn't a medical issue that needs fixing. But honestly? Making sure you have regular sex and at the most fertile time is the most important thing.

It's also important to remember that very early miscarriage has always been common-it's just that people often didn't realise it was happening. Accurate very early testing means that they are now. So,while heartbreaking, it does not mean there is necessarily a problem, it's just part of a process that we have only recently been aware of.

Mumofteenandtween · 01/01/2025 09:21

Realised that if I started charting / measuring mucus / using ovulation sticks etc then I would very quickly get stressed / obsessed (I am the obsessive type) and that would be bad for conceiving, even worse for our marriage and terrible for my mental health.

So we did none of that and just had lots and lots of sex. I think I did stick a pillow under my bum afterwards but that was all.

And (due to no sex for several days due to flying halfway round the world and then being too tired to even think about sex) we are pretty sure that dd was conceived during a “just for fun no chance at all of conceiving” shag via a mutant 6 day old sperm. Dh was very proud!

With ds we were too tired to have lots and lots of sex (and far too tired to even think about getting obsessive about it) so we just had sex when dd deigned to sleep long enough to let us.

hopsalong · 01/01/2025 10:07

Not having sex before ovulation. DC1 was conceived after a split condom (for which I didn't take the morning after pill) on cycle day 12. Tried for two months for DC2 with no luck, having sex every day, often twice a day. Then DH was away for work so had sex only on CD 12 and 13.

Can't help thinking that if you have lots of sex during the week before ovulation then your fallopian tubes are full of old/damaged sperm which might crowd out the good/fresh ones!
