Hi all, looking for advice on vitamins to take when trying to conceive. I'm over 35 with no known problems and a regular cycle. Been trying to conceive for 5 months. Would love to hear your positives and negatives about what you've tried!

@Floomobal I will definitely be switching to your recipe after my wildly expensive proceive ran out. Now you mention it I do recall the cheap boots pots being something I took in my last pregnancy many moons ago. The coq10 seems to be an essential addition from what I’ve heard. Thank you

@Kateb149 thank you so much for your input. It’s both comforting and yet disappointing to hear 🤣 I’m comforted that I’ve found someone who is experiencing the same thing because I’ve searching the internet high and low and everyone everywhere insists it’s not possible for the proceive to effect my breast pain - I even emailed the company and they say they’ve never heard of such a thing! However, it’s disappointing because I was really hoping I would be coincidentally pregnant. AF is due in 3/4 days/Monday and I’ve been convinced I am pregnant. I’ve obsessively taken 3 pregnancy tests in the last 2 days, obviously all negative but still holding a tiiiiny bit of hope 🥲

I was searching too and that’s how I found your thread! I have heard of other people on mumsnet report the same though unfortunately 😕 i’ve loved taking Proceive as I feel it has all the benefits but i’ve never had pain like it, and I also convince myself I must be pregnant each cycle!
Hope you get your BFP soon 🤞☺️

AmusedJadeTraybake · 09/01/2025 15:44

@Kateb149 at least we found each other 🤣 if I happen to have a miracle I will be sure to let you know! I’d love an update from you when you switch as to whether the breast pain calms down

Just my input but I found proceive messed with my cycle (took longer to ovulate) switched to just folic acid and coq10 and conceived in about 6 weeks!

Oh definitely 😅 I’m glad i’m not the only one but sad you’re experiencing the same. I’ll keep you in the loop, I’d love to hear how you get on as well!

@Remy87 oooh that’s interesting to know… i’ve been ovulating anywhere between CD14 and CD18 so I wonder if that will change for me too. Could I ask how much CoQ10 you were taking?

AmusedJadeTraybake · 09/01/2025 16:36

@Remy87 brilliant news! This is exactly what I’m going to do next

I'm taking inessa pregnancy support vitamin (it's for before pregnancy too)

600mg CoQ (I'm 37)
Vitamin b6 (to try and stop the spotting)
Evening primrose oil (to create more EWCM)

AmusedJadeTraybake · 09/01/2025 21:43

@carolinep3 Ive been researching the evening primrose oil as I don’t have a huge amount of ewcm. I found a study from the national library of medicine where they found that evening primrose oil had a negative effect on time it took to conceive and needs much more research before being promoted as a benefit for ttc (even though I see it very much is!) it’s a very long and complex read and covers folic acid and other things too. I’ve included the link below in case you’re interested in reading, skip to section 4.discussion if you don’t feel the need to read the entire thing!

I will
Give it a read thanks. I took it with my last two children and was fine but obviously there are various things to do to create more EWCM so can always focus on them first.

BabyS2025 · 09/01/2025 21:59

Where does everyone get their coQ10 from? I don't seem to be able to get a straight answer from google on how much to take? (I'm 37)

Gross warning - EWCM question - I seem to make lots of 'mucus' - I'm in my fertile period now and it's very stretchy but yellow-y rather than clear like egg white - is that bad or good!? IE is it amount or does it need to be 'properly' EWCM???

I bought mine on Amazon. Brand is the intelligent health and they are 300mg.

@Kateb149 @AmusedJadeTraybake
I just bought the max strength ones from boots!
Fingers crossed it works for you Smile

AmusedJadeTraybake · 10/01/2025 11:02

So, definitely not pregnant. Just started my period 3 days early! This means I've only had a 24 day cycle this month. Very disappointing and seems like the opposite of the desired/advertised effects. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna knock the Proceive on the head and change over to folic acid and coq10.

My ubiquinol just arrived! Just taken my first 600mg dose! Is that the right amount for over 35?

Yes 👍🏻

Thank you @carolinep3

I got pregnant in December, had a very early miscarriage in January. My period hasn’t started again yet, but keeping taking the supplements, hoping to get back into a regular cycle quickly so we can try again.

S522 · 06/02/2025 10:37

starting this thread for some support and advice :)
TTC #4 - 37yo, I have always tracked ovulation with ovulation pains and EWCM only and when TTC previously have used OPKs.

started using OPKs in December 24 and noticed I was ovulating later than previous testing years! CD18 december then CD21 in jan….28/29 day cycle. Very odd, now I’m paranoid I’m perimenopausal 🫣
have done some research and started taking B6 and Vitamin C to help lengthen my luteal phase :).

so this cycle I haven’t had much of a positive OPK! A slight rise but not a dark line! Now I’m wondering if I’ve even ovulated at all :/

anyone in similar situation … guess all I can do is cont doing OPKs and wait for AF?

Anyone else over 35 and have issues with delayed ovulation after it all being normal before? Xxxx
