Hey ladies,

bit of back story...... i stopped the pill around the 9/10/24, i was just coming off a period, , but continued to bleed for an extra 10 days, i put this down to withdrawl bleeding.
i then went on to spot a few days, didnt need to wear anything but it was there when i wiped....

since then i have not had a period, i have had cramps on and off for a couple of weeks, and i kept thinking, yep, periods coming, but nothing?

my flo app keeps telling me im 24 days late for my period, taken a test so i know im not pregnant?

could i ovulate before getting my first period back?

i am 38 years old with 3 children already 17/16/13 years old ( crazy for wanting to start again with babies i know haha!)

im hoping someone on here will have some advise or have there own experiences to share from coming off the pill, not sure if it makes a difference, but i was on the progesterone only pill, oh and i was only on the pill for 6 month, so not prolonged use.

🤗

I'd go see your GP. (After taking a pregnancy test, because that's probably the first thing they'll ask)

I came off the minipill after 3/4yrs of use last November. I'm pretty sure my period was back as normal in January. Late Nov was some random spotting, December was some limited bleeding at vaguely the right time and then Jan was what I'd call a proper period. I'm one of the lucky ones who gets no bleeding while on the POP.

The pop hormones should long have left your body by now, so worth getting checked out

thanks for your reply, yes i think i will make an appointment to see my GP if i have not come on in the next couple of week, as looking at my calendar its only been 5 week since stopping the pill, feels so much longer though!

How regular were your periods before going on the pill? Each time I've stopped hormonal contraception, I've had a withdrawal bleed, then (from memory) periods have started a month later. Mine were always very regular and returned just the same. You only stopped the pill a month ago, so I wouldn't be overly concerned personally. Especially as the pregnancy test was negative.

I assume you are well otherwise? No anaemic, no thyroid issues or other deficiencies which could cause period disturbances?

hi,

no, im healthy as far as i know haha, i used to suffer with anemia but thats ok now.... my periods where pretty much like clockwork before going on the pill, and still more or less 28 days whilst being on the pill.

im hoping its just taking a while to regulate its self, or that i was bleeding for an extended time when i came off, that its just not " built up" again yet, if thats even a thing x

I'd say the bleeding you had after stopping was all withdrawal bleeds. You don't have a period while on the pill so when you say 'just coming off a period' it wasn't actually a period, so maybe if logged that in Flo that's why Flo is confused? Takes on average 3 months to regulate your cycle after coming off contraception. And yes you would usually ovulate before having your first period. So I'd imagine you haven't had any period yet, you could ovulate any time now if you haven't already and things will become easier to track after your first cycle returns. Best of luck OP!
