Hi ladies

those of you who temp, how long after your LH peak do you actually ovulate?

Those were my opks yesterday and today. So I had my LH surge/peak yesterday. LH started rising early in the AM and peaked in the afternoon.

started to go back down today already as this morning’s test was negative (line still pretty visible though so it didn't drop back down to original levels).

do you think I ovulated last night, or will I ovulate today?
is tonight too late to DTD?

I might start temping next cycle because this whole guessing game is giving me a headache

ty!! Xxx

On average women ovulate within 36 hours of the peak, but there will be outliers.

There's no way of knowing whether you actually have ovulated beyond temping or taking a blood test.

The best days to get pregnant are one and two days before ovulation. The day of ovulation itself is generally too late.

You should have sex today in case you ovulate tomorrow. Tbh, unless there is a reason why you can't I'd suggest having sex every 2-3 days around your fertile window for the best chance of timing things right.

Thank you! Yeah it’s impossible to tell, I’ll definitely start temping next cycle if I havent conceived this cycle.

however I disagree when you say day of ovulation is generally too late. When the egg is released, it stays in the uterus between 12-24 hours waiting to be fertilized

so day of ovulation is far from too late, it’s actually the best day from what I've heard as when the swimmers arrive, the egg is there waiting for them

There have been studies on this and the day of ovulation is not the best day.

The egg lives at most for 12-24 hours. Sperm must go through a process called capacitation which takes several hours and without which they are not capable of fertilising the egg.

Fertilisation typically takes place in the fallopian tubes. The egg travels down the tubes to the uterus and if it reaches the uterus unfertilised will generally be absorbed.

All this means that you really need for the sperm to be ready and waiting (having gone through capacitation) when the egg comes down the tubes. It is why most babies are conceived through sex two days and one day before ovulation . Sperm can happily live for up to 5 days so you could also get pregnant from sex 5 days before ovulation, although that is less likely.
