When to see the doctor?

Me and my husband have been really trying to conceive for 10 months. However we have not used contraception for about 3 years and have just used pull out method or timmed sex around my cycle beforehand. I was wondering if this qualifies us to be investigated by the doctor on the NHS for fertility treatment or do we wait another 2 months (12 months of seriously trying). I really don't know how it works on the NHS with investigations and accessing fertility treatment, but have been told it can take a while. Any help will be much appreciated.

If you're under 35 they say 12 months, over 35 6 months and the doctor will start with basic tests to see if there's any obvious reason, and they progress from there x

Yeah then I'd say get to 12 months then it's worth getting the ball rolling. Hopefully it happens for you in the next few months x

They say 12 months so don't panic too much that it hasn't happened yet, but I know how frustrating it is. You could just tell your doctor that it has been 12 months if you were feeling really impatient, or suspect something is up. Like is your cycle regular, what is the length of your luteal phase?

I'd say as soon as you feel ready, waiting list are usually 9-12 months so the sooner you can get on the list the better, you can always come off the list if successful x

When I saw my gp they considered me trying from the time I came off the pill. I’m just about to start ivf but it’s been a 2 year journey to get here. Lots of waiting lists for tests. If I were you I’d get the ball rolling as soon as you can. Wishing you luck xx
