Anyone's hubby/partner on venlafaxine?

Hubby and I have been trying to conceive our second since may time. Unbeknownst to us we actually haven't been on a contraceptive since Jan 23. (I had a coil fitted that perforated my womb and didn't find out until I went to get it removed Jan 24)
Anyway, so yeah that's a long time not on contraception and we haven't got pregnant.
I was breastfeeding my first until Feb/march time.

Hubby started taking venlafaxine in April/may time.
Had had a few issues with finishing when he first went on it but now it's leveled out in his system this has gone away ( can sometimes just take a bit longer to get there)
Anyway. Google doesn't have an answer. There have not been human studies. Only some in rates which showed it affected their sperm parameters slightly.

So just wondering if anyone has experience TTC with a partner taking venlafaxine

I don't have experienced this, but I'd like to thank you for your very intelligent and well-documented post :)

I’ve been taking venlafaxine for about 12 years. When I first started taking it I was told absolute not to conceive (I’m female). It’s not a first line medication and it might be an idea to double check it doesn’t affect sperm.

sorry.

My partner was on venlafaxine for about 6 years when we conceived our first. We had no trouble conceiving, 4 cycles after we started actively trying with OPKs etc. We never even thought about it possibly affecting sperm but maybe would have if we had trouble conceiving.

The NHS page says there's no concerns

https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/venlafaxine/pregnancy-breastfeeding-and-fertility-while-taking-venlafaxine/#:~:text=Venlafaxine%20and%20fertility,want%20to%20review%20your%20treatment.

It is really hard to gather the information on pregnancy more so for male fertility as it's harder to collect the data. It takes quite a bit of time to separate out fertility issues caused by X Vs caused by medication. The evidence changes all the time too, when I started on my medication in 2012 the advice was only stay on it in pregnancy if the risk of not being medicated is higher. In 2018 there was a meta data study - a study bringing together all of the good small scale studies so you then get enough participants to start to see population changes and they found that there was no increased risks in conception or miscarriage and birth defects just a small increased risk of poor neonatal adaptation syndrome. I had my daughter in 2020 without issues and went on to breastfeed on this medication and 4 different antidepressants including very briefly venflaxine.

If concerned it would be worth a chat with your GP or to your partners prescribing doctor.
