Is it possible to have ovulated twice?

This cycle, I got my peak ovulation on clearblue digital on cycle day 8 (as I did last month), and also confirmed via one step strip and bbt.

I've continued testing as I've been so thrown by last months early ovulation and concerned about peri menopause.

Today, 5 days later on cycle day 13, I again had peak on clearblue digital, and one step strip tests - and my bbt also took a dip yesterday and increased today; pic of chart attached;

What is going on?! Is this a sign of peri? I've made big dietary changes since May; cutting sugar, gluten and dairy as this is meant to improve PCOS symptoms 🤷‍♀️

Despite my pcos, my cycles have always between relatively regular, between 26-30 days - never ovulated before day 11 previously, except last month when I ovulated day 8 and had a 20 day cycle - which has really thrown me. That period was also incredibly heavy compared to my norm.

I'm 38, I have PCOS, conceived my son through ivf in 2021, and have had 4 embryo transfers in 9 months, all ending in chemical pregnancies. So I'm pretty used to tracking / testing etc - have been for the best part of 6 years!

Any help would be much appreciated - thank you!

You can definitely ovulate twice, that's how fraternal twins are born.

StressStress · 21/08/2024 09:25

You CAN’T ovulate twice in a cycle more than 24 hours apart.
You can release 2 eggs within 24 hours maximum.

@StressStress could it be 2 LH surges, but only one will have resulted in ovulation?

You can have multiple LH surge in a cycle, your body tried to ovulate, didn’t happen and it’s trying again. If ovulation did occur your temp would remain high but it has crashed to baseline so definitely looks like you didn’t ovulate first time round.

Is this suddenly happening a potential sign of peri menopause?

and if this is the case, only the second one could lead to an ovulation

This isn’t true, hyperovulation is when you ovulate more than one egg at the same time and multi ovulation is multiple LH peaks cause another ovulation. So this is possible OP

It's extremely extremely rare…..
(I'm a medical doctor btw)

I guess I'll never know for sure what happened, but maybe my period (when I inevitably don't conceive) date will give an indication if only one surge was real! I'm assuming 12 ish days from now if it's the latter which would be ovulation.

Does anyone know if these changes could be peri menopause encroaching?

Thank you for taking the time to respond - been rather flummoxed today!
