Just had a positive OPK - when is best to DTD?

Hi all,

I did an OPK test this afternoon which was negative. I’ve now just had a positive.

I DTD yesterday but the next chance I’ll get is tomorrow. A bit gutted as I feel like today would have been the best day?

Is tomorrow a bit too late?

I think I usually ovulate quite close to when I first get a positive OPK.

How long does it take sperm to swim up to the egg? And how long does the egg hang around for waiting to be fertilised?!

thanks!

My youngest was conceived two days before I got a positive opk. I think I ovulated the day after. My eldest was conceived either the day before or day of ovulation (we dtd both times).

The egg survives 24 hours after release. The LH surge is the “message” to release the egg so it happens within 24-36 hours of the surge.
I don’t think DTD tomorrow will do any harm as there’s nothing precise about ovulation anyway and could still catch it. DTD yesterday also gives you a good chance as the little fellas stick around for days. “The one” could be there in your fallopian tube eagerly waiting to meet the egg this very second. That’s a weird thought for you!

Good luck! Hope it’s your month.

I think you will have probably covered all bases by doing it the day of before the surge (just in case ovulation happened quickly after) and then the day after the surge (in case ovulation happens about 24 hours later, which is most likely)

Good luck!

The time I conceived we DTD two days before the peak, and the day after the peak (ovulation day). One of those stuck.

Good morning so sorry to jump on but would you say this is negative but nearly there, I can see it’s lighter than the control line but maybe tomorrow will be darker? Or would you say this is positive

It’s negative. It’s hard to say, do you know what you are like at other times of your cycle? Some people can have that level for a lot of it and then it gets stronger for the peak, whereas others have hardly anything showing, so then that indicates it would be starting to increase to peak.

I use the premom app to store them. Also take them twice a day.

Thanks so much for your reply, I’m on cd12 I usually get a positive between day 13-14 but thought this was quite dark this morning as I usually get a faint line then a strong positive the day I get it, but I’m 100% sure it’s negative like you’ve said, will try again tomorrow morning- also I usually use one step strips which I always have but used a boots own brand one this morning so do you think maybe they just show differently to the other brand? As I usually just get faint then one strong one Thankyou

Blue2020 · 20/08/2024 09:02

@Shandy815 I wouldn’t be able to comment on the differences. I have only used the easy at home ones. It should hopefuly go as strong as the control. If you have enough spare you could take one this evening then two tomorrow. If you don’t then tomorrow morning. Also if you usually ovulate soon, and are ttc, then DTD now could count.

I usually keep testing until just after the peak because it can vary by a day or two, or longer if something has caused ovulation to be delayed.

Shandy815 · 20/08/2024 09:22

Great Thankyou , when it’s actually positive you still don’t ovulate until a few days after that do you? So would it be best to dtd a few days after the positive too

Blue2020 · 20/08/2024 09:29

@Shandy815 for me it’s the day after peak. I use bbt to confirm it. I think it can vary though so you could continue to cover until a few days after. DTD now is a chance too (assuming your peak is soon), it’s something like 4 days before ovulation until 12/24hrs after. There’s a slightly higher chance the closer to ovulation.
