So a bit of back ground on me I have secondary infertility so finding a BFP is like finding a unicorn in a pot of gold who tap dances... I have terrible eggs... but... every now and again I get a good one. So after a long break from Mumsnet and a MMC last year I'm back on the baby making train. I have one beautiful 3yo who took 3 years to conceive and am 19 months into trying for baby #2. I'm 2/3dpo today and holding onto some hope that this month will be different 🤞🏽 let's make a lucky thread and see some positives! Who's with me?!

Joining! I was lucky with my first but secondary infertility is kicking my ass! Over a year and no luck yet. Just had the bfn this morning so ready for positivity and luck.

What are you doing taking/ to improve chances? ive been on wild fertility supplements but wondering about co-q10...

thejollytrolleydolly · 24/07/2024 09:14

@Unfairtravel hello! I've tried it all! Conception vitamins, coQ10, diet change... I was on the supplements for the best part of a year and they did nothing so I gave up on them. My doctor said I can either try ivf or wait and see if nature is kind. I don't have a spare £10k so nature it is! I had a tough time last year after the MC but I'm feeling at peace with it all now. Going to give myself another year or so as I'm turning 39 soon. What dpo are you on?

OP posts:
Unfairtravel · 24/07/2024 10:07

12 dpo so know im a little early but also just don't feel it. For my pfb and chemical early this year I had some specific symptoms. I know each pregnancy can be different but when you know, you know.
I'm with you on the ivf. I feel very lucky to have no. 1 and dont really have that much spare change lying around...
Its so tricky with diet and supplements, so many 'experts' saying things very confidently with no actual evidence.

thejollytrolleydolly · 24/07/2024 12:34

@Unfairtravel I know what you mean, my last pregnancy I just knew but then again my first (successful) one took my completely by surprise! I didn't really have any symptoms with either but the one thing that I had both times was extreme anxiety around the time of implantation. By that point I had more or less given up on the idea of getting pregnant so I wasn't really looking for symptoms but I had kept notes on how I felt each day and that popped up both times. I've never tested positive before 13dpo either so you're not out until you're out!

With the supplements it's worth a go because they could absolutely work. The one thing I will say about taking the conceive vitamins is my period was bang on time every month like clockwork and it's a bit more varied since I don't take them anymore. I guess I just thought they were the magic pill that would get me a baby and it was super disappointing when it didn't work! I'm leaving it to nature and having silent hope that my body will work again. It's just nice to have people to talk to about it!

I'm 12dpo too. Very white test today.
Feel AF coming.
I'm 40..
TTC baby two with DH, my 3rd.
Last baby took two years and I'll be going ronit cycle 3 in a day or two.
I know I'm not out yet, but after two years trying for DD, I know.

I'm back on the vitamins I took last time, dropped my caffeine intake, barely touch alcohol anyway these days so that's easy and lots of yoga.

Good luck to us all

thejollytrolleydolly · 24/07/2024 21:49

@PennyPencils welcome to the club! I'm hoping this will be a lucky thread for us! As you say you're not out until you're out! It's definitely disheartening when you haven't seen a whisper of a line a day or 2 before your af is due. I've got a few tests which I will probably start using from about 7dpo because I'm a crazy person 😂

Good luck to you too, may the odds be ever in our favour x

Hello! Joining this slightly rubbish band wagon. Been TTC our second for 12 months now (1st turned 2 in May). I’ve had 3 miscarriages in 11 of those months. Last one was in June and I had surgery. Period still isn’t back, am due on Friday I think but didn’t really have sex around ovulation this month so hoping next month is more successful.

Secondary infertility is such an emotional ride.

TellMeSweetLittleLines · 25/07/2024 09:27

Hi everyone, can I hop onboard please?

I am 39, we have a beautiful, amazing 2.5 year old daughter, and been ttc no 2 for 7 months. Which I totally appreciate is no time at all compared to some of you, but I haven’t had a sniff of a BFP in that time and I am starting to worry it might not happen.

Not helped by the fact that I now appear to get sore boobs as a PMS symptom which I never did before, leading to some false hope as it was one of the first signs with my first pregnancy. I’ve also had a couple of very wonky cycles since we started trying again which is just bloody typical isn’t it!

I’m at the stage where I scour the line eyes threads just to get the hit of seeing two lines on a test! 🙈😄

AF is in town right now and this cycle will be the last one which would let me have the baby before I turn 40, which was always my plan. I know I need to let go of that as it’s just an arbitrary deadline I’ve set myself and it doesn’t really matter, but it still feels significant to me.

Wishing everyone good luck and baby dust and hope this turns out to be a lucky thread with lots of BFPs!

thejollytrolleydolly · 25/07/2024 11:52

Hello @triedoftrying123 @TellMeSweetLittleLines and welcome. It's nice that there's other people on the same boat together on this awful struggle bus. At least this can be a safe space to moan and voice our frustrations but I really hope this will be a lucky thread!

@TellMeSweetLittleLines I know what you mean about the line hit 😂 I sometimes do a test right after my period just to check it wasn't implantation bleeding 🙈 TTC makes you all kinds of crazy!! ❤️

@TellMeSweetLittleLines I have also found myself looking at other peoples tests - such a strange past time.

My period arrived today so I’m trying to see it as a new beginning (was not expecting to be pregnant this month).

I am also on ALL the supplements in the hope I can avoid IVF. I think I’ll try them for 6 months and see. I’m taking 8 tablets in all!

has anyone had a referral to their nhs sub fertility service? I was meant to have one but then I had my third miscarriage so referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic. They were meant to triage me 3 weeks ago but still haven’t heard so have complained!

TellMeSweetLittleLines · 25/07/2024 18:32

Thanks @thejollytrolleydolly and @triedoftrying123 ! Yes it’s definitely a strange past time 🙈 and yes I may have also POAS whilst on my period just to check it isn’t implantation bleeding 🤣

What supplements/remedies are you all trying? I have half-heartedly dabbled before - terrible at sticking to things! - but going to give it a proper go this month. I’m trying:-

Seed cycling
Grapefruit juice for CM
Pomegranate/pineapple core for implantation
Preseed
Fertilily
Folic acid/Vit D - was taking a full prenatal supplement but the brand I used throughout my first pregnancy seems to have been discontinued. Any recommendations?
Maude & Myrtle Fertility Tea

I was thinking of maca powder but there seem to be too many horror stories of disrupted cycles so I think I’ll give it a miss.

I’ve been reading The Fertility Kitchen and can’t decide if it’s helpful or overwhelming!

I’d like to add in some more supplements but if I bought all of the recommended ones I’d bankrupt myself 😁

What are people’s views on Coq10?

thejollytrolleydolly · 25/07/2024 21:28

@TellMeSweetLittleLines at the moment nothing! I wasn't even taking folic acid when I fell pregnant with my daughter as it had been 3 years of trying and I had just about given up! I've tried fertility supplements which I did actually like because they made my cycles SUPER regular but I didn't think that coQ10 did anything for me personally. I'm just trying cutting down on alcohol, caffeine and eating a keto-esque diet. Won't hurt to lose a few lbs on the way too 😉 from speaking to my nurse my odds of having another baby are pretty low but I'm not counting it out! I've had one unicorn so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another lucky egg 🙂

triedoftrying123 · 25/07/2024 21:53

@TellMeSweetLittleLines I am taking everything I can throw down me! Are you doing any specific exercise or cutting anything out?

i’m taking:

Ubiquinol
R-alpha acid
Folate
Vitamin D
Vitamin E
N-Acetyl Cysteine
omegas
plus my pre natal vitamins - I just switched to procieve, hoping that might help. It tastes horrid and isn’t cheap!

Who knows if it will have an effect, but I figured 6 months of supplements is cheaper than ivf. (They’re still not even that cheap). I also started back at the gym after the last miscarriage. First time in 3 years!

I have no idea what this will do to my cycles as I only started it all after my miscarriage in June so will be interesting to see what day I ovulate. I stopped breastfeeding in December and that delayed my ovulation, then miscarriages etc so haven't really had a chance to get to know my cycle properly.

I’m so fed up/frustrated with the set backs. It’s impossible not to think about it.

TellMeSweetLittleLines · 26/07/2024 10:13

@thejollytrolleydolly I’ll keep everything crossed for your little unicorn! At least, in some ways, having made the decision to leave it to luck frees you from the obsessing over any little thing that might give you an edge. (Though with ttc, there’s always something to obsess over, amirite 🤣)

@triedoftrying123 I think I might need one of those pill boxes my granny used to use to keep me right with all of that! 🤣 I’m going to do a bit of research today and see what I think might be best for me. What does the R-alpha acid and N-acetyl do? I don’t recall coming across them in my copious reading.

I definitely do need to shed a few lbs 🙈 diet wise I’m trying to focus on non-UPF, plenty of nuts and seeds (seed cycling), more green veggies, less sugar. Exercise wise I just completed the Caroline Girvan beginners programme and think I’m going to do that again but with increased weights before moving on. I’d like to get back into a bit of yoga. I’ve dabbled with fertility yoga in the past. I’ve lost 2-3 inches off my waist in the last 6 weeks so it does seem to be working, just need to keep it up!

What about the OHs? My husband isn’t currently taking any supplements but I’m trying to convince him it might be a good idea. I’m also making him cut right down on the coffee to 1 cup a day and drink Rooibos tea instead as I’ve read it’s good for sperm! He’s not a happy camper but I can’t be the only one making changes 🤣 and I’ve told him he needs to eat lots of nuts and tomatoes too.

We haven’t had any testing done, we conceived within 6 months last time, which was great given I was 36, and just outside that timeframe in terms of trying this time. I think we’ll give it another few cycles before we look into that as I’d really rather not if we don’t have to.

thejollytrolleydolly · 26/07/2024 10:18

@TellMeSweetLittleLines are the Caroline girvan workouts good? They were recommended to me by someone at work last week but I'm yet to try them. My partner won't take any supplements as he got tested and they said he has perfect sperm 🙄 of course 😂 it's just me with the dodgy eggs which used to make me feel super shite but I'm kind of over it.

So as I am a POAS addict and I have no idea when I ovulated just a rough idea. I tested this morning. I thought I saw a vvf shadow so I will test again tomorrow and see if there is anything there. I only thought to test as I had the WORST dreams and insomnia last night. Woke 12-2:30 and then dreamed about oh having an affair and losing my DD 😩 it's probably nothing and I'm not getting my hopes up but maybe unicorns do exist 🤞🏽🤞🏽

OP posts:
TellMeSweetLittleLines · 26/07/2024 18:00

@thejollytrolleydolly yes I’ve enjoyed doing it and I am not geverally a fan of any formal exercise 🤣 I did the beginner programme on her app and thought it was very good at explaining how to do it etc

Fingers crossed your shadow turns out to have a horn and a tail!🦄
