Removal of copper iud casuing thin uterine lining?

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has removed a copper iud and were having strange periods after? I had regular, 4 days of medium to heavy flow the whole 2,5 years I was on the coil.

I then removed it end of April to start trying for our second, and had a normal period a couple of days after in May (4 days with medium flow). Then the next period in June was 7 days late and only lasted a day of light to medium flow. This month it was on time but again only one day of a light flow.
Officially, every doctor I have spoken to has said that the copper iud doesn't affect your period on removal and that you should be able to conceive instantly.

I have read stories about other women facing similar issues where their uterine lining has gotten too thin and it affects their fertility for a long time after removal and I worry this has caused mine to thin too as I have such a small amount of blood shedding each month.

I've researched things to do to increase the thickness of the lining which I'm doing, however wanted to see if anyone else had this and how long it took to go back to normal?

I'm ovulating normally but I'm worried my lining is too thin for implantation.
Am I just freaking myself out, is it normal for it to take a couple of months to settle and should I just wait it out? Or is it something I might have to be proactive about?
I'm 33 btw and with my first I got pregnant almost instantly after taking the iud out but I had the mirena at the time so can't compare now.

Anyway, any advice is appreciated!
Thanks!

I can’t say about the iud because I used the mini pill. However I had a mmc in 2022 and I ended up needing surgery for retained products. After that my periods were incredibly light. About 2 days of very light bleeding and a day of spotting vs my usual 5 days of medium to heavy. I was worried I wasn’t ovulating or thin lining, I said if it was still like that after 3-4 months I would go to the gp. I somehow still conceived on the third cycle and it resulted in ds. So I can’t say but just that I had two very very light periods and then conceived on the third cycle. Just to add a positive outcome story about the very light period.

Could you visit the gp and see if you can have an ultrasound to check the lining? They might say to see if it regulates itself first after a few months but they might help sooner.

I had my copper IUD removed in May a week before I was due my period, a week later nothing.. completely skipped it and didn't then come on until mid June which was a little lighter than normal but still around 4 days. Like you I was under the impression it didn't really mess anything up due to the non hormonal concept but after doing some research seems it does!

Thank you! It does make me feel much better knowing it's still possible to conceive just after such a light periods, so happy it worked out for you!

Yes I will probably do the same, give it another month or two and if it doesn't change (or I end up pregnant) ill go to the GP.

Oh did it! It's so strange to me how the copper iud is talked about as if it has no impact whatsoever, when it's very clear to most women who've had them, that they do affect their cycle and mood etc.
Hoping your cycles regulate soon!
