Chemical Pregnancy

Hi all. I’ve had what I believe to be a miscarriage today (but technically chemical pregnancy as I am 4 weeks and 5 days) I just wanted to ask do I need to see a doctor next week or do I just let it run its course?

Also, how soon is it okay to start trying again? And how do you work out cycle days etc? Is it day one today?

Thanks

most "chemical" pregnancies are never even noticed, you won't need to see a doctor unless something else is wrong, and you can try again immediately

TheShellBeach · 22/06/2024 19:31

Hi. I'm sorry to hear you've lost your baby. Miscarriage is always awful.
There should be no need to see your doctor. Chemical pregnancies are a very common occurrence, unfortunately.

You can start trying again as soon as you would like to. I hope you have a successful pregnancy next time.

I am sorry for your loss! I had a CP at the beginning of last month, I waited to bleed when I could barely see the line. I counted the first day of bleeding as CD1 and I didn't see a doctor until CD4 because I wanted to inform them that it was my 2nd MC. The GP arranged a standard blood test for me and I am still waiting for the result.
I started to try again as soon as I finished bleeding. The post CP cycle lasted for 34 days and my LH levels kept fluctuating. Finally I ovulated on CD22 but I didn't get a BFP. Maybe my body was still recovering.
Today is CD14 of the second cycle and it seems everything is back to normal. I still feel a bit blah sometimes even though I am close to ovulation in the next 2 days.
I hope you will recover and don't get disheartened if you don't get a BFP straight away. Good luck!

I started to use lots of devices and apps to help to track ovulation because CP messed up my hormone levels and I was desperate to know what my body was doing. 😂
I will recommend to use the following devices/apps

  1. OvuSense: you put the sensor inside your vagina when you go to sleep and it will measure BBT overnight. I also measure Oral BBT however it is affected by many external factors so I normally use it for a second pinion. You have to pay for 1 year subscription for OvuSense and the sensor will collect data from the first cycle and pinpoint the O day 3 days later you ovulated. For the second cycle, it will let you know the fertile window and the O day. Currently I inputted the post CP cycle as the first cycle and entered the date of CP and the O day manually. This cycle is now the second cycle however I only started to use it from CD9 so it does not know that I am about to ovulate.
  2. CB fertility monitor: It detects a rise in Estrogen 5 days before the O day. You have to register your new cycle between C1 and CD4 otherwise it doesn't work (I don't know why but this is something you have to keep in your mind)
  3. Easy at home LH strips: They are good for visual however your urine has to concentrated. Make sure you drink little after 5 p.m. You can also use Premum to identify the daily T/C ratio to determine if your LH levels are rising.

Other devices and apps I use are Temdrop, Mira, Proov, Flo, Health app on Iphone and my apple watch which measures daily RHR and Wrist temperature.

Premom is good for charting BBT and seeing if LH levels are rising however you can not adjust the O day. This is what normally happens: when there is a sudden rise in BBT and premom immediately sets the day as the O day. Then my BBT keeps rising and premom still doesn't adjust the O day. However on the day of LH surge, I use the app to take the picture of the LH strip and it is shown as peak then the app resets the O day to the exact day.

To do BBT charting, Fertility Friend is recommended. But I haven't used it.

You will feel positive some days and blah for other days. It is normal. There are two things I have learnt: Never look back. Never compare yourself to others.

Look forward and do the things you like!

Thanks so much for all this advice @LucyCL . I’ve now started using easy @ home and premom.

My first pregnancy with my little boy was really straight forward so this is all new to me. The chemical pregnancy has happened on the first round of trying for baby number 2, so it will be interesting to see what happens this cycle. I actually found the miscarriage really painful, completely different to what I’ve read of people just thinking it’s a normal period!

Could you advise me on what sort of numbers I’m looking for when it’s peak/ovulation?

I wouldn't worry too much about exact numbers - they are really affected by lighting/camera quality. Just look for the darkest lines.

Those two don't seem valid yet, there's still too much pink in the background. The pink needs to have disappeared before you can read the result.

I'm sorry about your CP. I'm 3DPO after mine. Its' difficult.

I'm not so good at tracking as Lucy; I just do BBT, easy@home via Premom and Flo. You'll find what works for you.

Best of luck conceiving x

You get the peak when T/C ratio is 1 or above 1.
I have shared the screenshots of all T/C ratios of my post CP cycle.
It is better to test it with FMU. Diluted urine and lighting can affect the figures.
Your LH might fluctuate a lot however figures themselves don't matter because they are used to tell you how close you are to ovulation. The day after your peak is your ovulation day.
A positive is always a positive even with SMU.

I had a MC and a CP and I found both of them frustrating. Both have delayed my ovulation from CD15 (past cycles before 1st MC) to CD22 (currently). I have to be really patient and be positive. Otherwise, I would be in hell and limbo of waiting.
I am still waiting patiently for my peak and today is CD20 for me. 😀 Hopefully you will get yours soon!

Thanks this is all really useful! The easy @ home said to test between 10am and 8pm, but it’s better to do FMU? Thanks for the tip of waiting longer until the pink is gone in the background.. this one looks clearer!

Both Premom and flo predicting next Saturday for ovulation. I’m on cycle day 8, bleeding stopped Tuesday and I’m now testing negative again. Will be interesting to see if it will be delayed. I have two friends who managed to get pregnant on next cycle after a chemical, and two others that had a period in between 🤞🏻🤞🏻
