Hi, I was wondering if anyone has been referred for fertility testing on the NHS recently? I have to have an internal US and bloods. Does anyone know if these come back normal will they send me for further tests? Or ask me to keep trying naturally? We have been trying for 13 months I’m 32 and trying to decide if we should go for private IVF rather than be patient and wait for some answers. TIA

I've been through this twice. Both times, the first step was internal ultrasound and bloods, plus semen analysis for DH. In 2020, i started treatment immediately after this step. In 2023, i was at a different hospital and they wanted me to have an HSG after this step before starting treatment. I didnt end up needing IVF though as ovulation induction worked for us.

Edit to add that we were asked to just keep trying naturally throughout the whole process (with the exception of the cycle when i was waiting for the HSG).

Yes, they'll get DH to do a semen sample and if you get referred to the fertility clinic they'll probably also book you in for a hycosy and a scan for DH. I actually finally fell just after that initial fertility clinic appointment (we'd been trying 16 months/10 cycles - but one was a loopy 146 day cycle and had recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism) so I don't know what happens from there.

Yes you'll also need to have a HSG/Hycosy test to check your tubes.
Bloods, AMH usually and the male tests of semen analysis.
These can take months to organise.
After you've been trying for 2 years they can refer for IVF.
