2 LH surges in 1 cycle! What?

Hey, I'm really confused about what's going on with my body and looking for guidance from anyone that's had similar.

I have endometriosis but this was operated on a year ago through specialist surgery. We're now TTC our first. I'm 38 years old and I have 1 blocked fallopian tube but both ovaries in tact.

I'm using both cheap ovulation sticks from amazon, and CB to track my pertinent window. 3 days after my period I had positive peak fertility static smiley on CB and a strong line on cheap test. Fabulous, we did the deed but only once. We haven't had sex since, that was over a week ago. I'm testing every day with cheap sticks to understand why the hell I peaked so soon after period. But then yesterday both my CB and cheap sticks were peak fertility again. What the hell does this mean?

@RoseWinter Sorry if what I say is not helpful as I have tried these opk sticks and think im rather useless at them. I thought it might be too early for you to have had a peak surge 3 days following your af so, but its not impossible as sometimes you may ovulate early. Are you able to post pics for others to see and check whether or not you had actually peaked then and now? Aparently, it can take a few days after a surge to actually ovulate. Keep dtd if you can over the next few days.

@carsty I don't have photos of the last tests I did but here are the details

6th May - 1st day of AF
9th May - Finished AF
10th May - Negative CB and LH test
11th May - Peak Fertility on CB and strong thick line on LH test
12th May - As above with LH test but didn't test with CB again because it stays static for 48 hours

I thought that was over and done with so didn't bother testing every day after that, the one time I did a couple days after showed negative fertile window and faint barely visible line on LH test

Then did an LH test 3 days ago, so

19 May - LH test has a faint line more visible than negative but thought nothing of it.
20 May - thick strong line on LH test, which spurred me to do the CB test and that is a static smiley so peak fertility again.
21 May - just got back from work did another LH stronger thicker line... Haven't tested with CB as it's still static from yesterday.

TMI did the baby dance yesterday but it was tooooo hot so didn't "finish" lol so round two today.

@RoseWinter ok maybe your about to ovulate now so thats good if you manage to get a few more dances in😉

It sounds like you failed to ovulate after the first LH peak (maybe because it was such a short follicular phase?! ), so your body has surged LH again for a second attempt at ovulation.

Girlfolk · 21/05/2024 22:39

Hi OP, it’s possible your LH peaked but you didn’t actually ovulate so your body tried again. As PP said, such a short follicular phase only 7 days may not have been long enough for your body to release an egg. Do you have a regular cycle if so how long is it usually?

RoseWinter · 22/05/2024 00:44

Thanks all, the female body is such a mystery sometimes.

@Girlfolk my cycle varies between 26 to 29 days so pretty regular x

Just to say I had this on a few different cycles and came to the conclusion that my baseline LH levels are high, so even a relatively small spike triggered peak fertility on Clearblue. (Lots of women have a small spike before the real spike, apparently).

Ended up using the cheap strip tests which are less sensitive and didn’t count it as ovulation until I got a really really dark line (much darker than control). Also paid much more attention to EWCM.

It worked an I ended up conceiving on a “second” LH surge, on day 29 of my cycle! Also saved myself a lot of money…

9 weeks now and saw a good heartbeat at 8 🤞

Good luck!

@Livv94 Congrats to you. I wish you all the best with a safe and happy journey and delivery🤗

First of all, congratulations on such exciting news. Really pleased for you and hope you have a safe healthy pregnancy and birth 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your journey it's really helpful. I've heard at my age your hormones can be firing all sorts of crazy around. My best friend who is a couple of years older than me has shared with me that similar happened with her when she was 37. She has absolutely no twins in her family, immediate or extended and ended up conceiving non identical twins on her 2nd or 3rd cycle and tracking showed her LH peak was sometimes different, twice, soon after period etc. She's mentioned Hyperovulation and that could be happening to me. I have soooo many twins in my family its nuts so I'm not sure if this is what's throwing my ovulation and LH about but I've had it a couple of times now on different cycles.

Your story brings me comfort and hope ❤️

Hey Livv, I'm just revisiting this post and wondered, how did you know you definitely concieved on day 29 of your cycle?

Just curious as we are trying throughout the months and ramping it up around ovulation. I'm on day 23 of my cycle and we did the BD. Have been trying for 8 months now to no avail. x

Sorry I missed this! I knew (or am 99% certain) because I got a positive ovulation test on day 29, we had sex that day, I tested a very faint positive 9 days later, and all my scans (I’m 23 weeks now and have had 4) timed the pregnancy to conceiving on Day 29 — he’s due on Christmas Day!

Sorry you’ve been trying for 8 months, it’s so frustrating isn’t it. If no luck yet I’d recommend you carry on testing after you get the first positive — if you’re like me you may be getting an early false positive and then actually ovulating a week or so later and missing it. X
