So I am about to come off the pill (northistrone so progressione only) and me and my partner are wanting to try for our first one. What are the best ways you have found to do this. Are pre natal vitamins helpful ? Any tips and tricks would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Just have lots of sex. You might be one of those who conceive without effort.

Another vote for lots of sex.

Not a conception tip, but as you asked about vitamins, are you already taking folic acid?

No im not, not sure what that does tbh

folic acid is very important to start taking pre conception so take it now and continue it. Otherwise the main thing is to have a decent balanced diet, stop smoking if you do and stop drinking alcohol.

Then have sex and see what happens. It sounds like you might benefit from buying a book and having a read about it just to get the basics of preparing for conception and pregnancy

If you aren’t pregnant in a few months then you can start thinking about when you are having sex a bit more etc

Folic acid is important in relation to the baby’s development in first trimester. The advice is to start taking it at least a couple of months prior to conception, and then until the end of first trimester.

I’d say start taking folic acid by itself immediately (you can get it at supermarkets) and then it is included in pregnancy vitamins for when you are pregnant.

I would also recommend your partner doesn’t drink excessive booze and starts taking a zinc supplement.

Definitely start taking folic acid now.

Then just have lots of sex. Don't time it, just go for it. And accept that you might not get pregnant for a year.

If you're not pregnant after a year then you can start having a look into why. But no point stressing about it until then. It's not unusual for it to take that long and there be nothing wrong.

If you're over 34, give it 6 months, not a year.

Best tip I can give is be prepared for it to take up to 12 months. This is totally normal and at the start can be really hard to get your head round. I think it's the hardest bit of it all to really understand. The conception board on here too is a god send and the clear blue digital ovulation tests are amazing, good luck 😁

I’d read this https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/trying-for-a-baby/trying-to-get-pregnant/

dont test til you miss your period. Expect it to take at least a year. Remember being pregnant does not equal having a baby. And I’d stay off MN initially. Don’t let it become obsessive in your life

and seriously consider your relationship - I wouldn’t have got pregnant before being married myself. Especially if you think you would reduce or have no income whilst possible kid(s) are young. If you are not married you are very financially vulnerable if you do that

Try not to obsess about it, relax and enjoy lots of sex

GoodVibesHere · 02/05/2024 06:31

Sex around ovulation time, so get to know your body and when you are likely ovulating. For me EWCM was always a good way to know when I was ovulating.

PoochiesPinkEars · 02/05/2024 06:33

The spinal cord can't develop properly without folic acid so a lack can cause spina bifida.

Personally my advice would be to keep the whole plan as light as possible and enjoy each other. If you get too deep into the whole process and checking success every five minutes it can become.... A lot.

The pp who said a year is normal is right, so try to relax and have fun.

Mairzydotes · 02/05/2024 06:40

If you use an online fertility calculator, have sex in the days before it estimates your fertile days to be.

Helplessandheartbroke · 02/05/2024 06:40

Sex every other day though ovation. This was recommended to us by a fertility doctor.

Cutekitty · 04/05/2024 05:21

Thanks guys, I have started some vitamins and some folic acid tablets. Hopefully it’s good news soon. Day 2 off the northistrone so hopefully in the next 6 months 🤞
