Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Is anyone actually good at Googling? I am not, and need to find some info about what actually happens during a mensural cycle.....

But I need it to explain why we don't all have the average 28 day cycle, and how ovulation can happen on other days other than CD14 etc.

Also a bit about some easy techniques on how you can go about pin pointing ovulation.

Thanks

toni weschler's take charge of your fertility is an excellent book

look at fertilityfriend.com

many sites do the 14 day before next period assumption which is crap

I think of it like an expanding shower rail, where first pole fits inside the other.

First pole is phase from start of period to ovulation and second pole is ovulation to period. The first pole length can be extended or shortened, but the second stays the same. Depending on the length of the first pole/phase, you can have a shorter or longer pole!!!

Works for me...

Thanks for starting this thread NJ, really helpful! To be honest it's not something I had looked at in detail before (well maybe I did it in Biology at school but that is lost in the mists of time!)

I particularly like the shower rail!

I have noticed lots of things in the last two cycles now that I am paying attention. I seem to get an achey, dragging down feeling on about day 20ish for a few days, then quite bad cramps until my period (which weirdly isn't crampy at all) - Could the achey feeling be OVing and then 10 days till my period (30 day cycle) maybe? I was thinking that in a 30 day cycle, OV would deffo happen on day 15.

You're very welcome Christobel, hope someone has said it in a way that is easier to get your head round it, the shower rail thing is great Teuch - well done!!
