Messed up my trigger shot - didn't take it all

Hi everyone, I'm after either a bit of reassurance or clarity. I've just had a round of IVF. I was given decapeptyl as an agonist trigger because of OHSS risk. I was supposed to take 0.2ml and got a box with 2 vials of powder, 2 bottles of solvent and no instructions. I mixed it all and measured out 0.2. Turns out I was only supposed to use one bottle of solvent for the 2 vials of powder. It was a late night trigger so no doctor to call. I wasted loads of trigger shot by overdiluting it and then not taking it all.

I found all this out because I called clinic first thing next morning- they said they would do a blood test to see if I had triggered or if I needed to postpone retrieval by a day and taking a new trigger. Results came back saying I'd triggered and nurse told me to stop worrying. I asked if my mistake was going to affect egg quality/numbers retrieved and she said, "Either you trigger or you don't. It doesn't make any difference."

I'm now post-retrieval with just 8 eggs retrieved and 2 low grade (3cc, 4cc) blastocysts, despite showing up to 25 follicles.

I know I can't change my mistake, but I'm going mad not knowing whether it is likely I've ruined this round with my mistake and the outcome would have been very different otherwise. Any thoughts or input anyone?

It sounds like you did what you needed to do to get your body ready for retrieval. Whether you took a little more or less doesn’t seem to matter as your body was clearly ready for the eggs to be collected.

I cant imagine how your trigger shot could have changed the eggs your body was producing. It sounds like you might have just had a lot of empty follicles or immature eggs, which can happen.

Try not to blame yourself. IVF can be a brutal process and seems anything can happen!

When will you get those blasts transferred? Wish you all the best with it.

Thank you so much for replying. I think everything you said about the eggs just being immature could be right, I've just been driving myself a bit mad worrying about it. I had a fresh transfer of the 3cc and am 4dp5dt. I'm still holding on to hope - just also kicking myself for the trigger mess up! Brutal is the right word!

@rewilding889 how are you getting on? I've just started a FET with my 1 blast that was graded 4CC x

Good luck to you! My fresh 3cc transfer didn't work so we have our FET 4cc next cycle. Hoping you get good news!x
