Hi
Wondering how did people pick their seem donor. I'm single and don't care about looks to be honest. I want pick a Scandinavian donor as I think their personality is overall great very calm and polite people. Also do you think desire for education is passed through the parents?I know most donors a quite young and maybe not have picked a path yet but I'm all about good grades and good degree. Not sure if I'm this way because of my personality or because everyone from my family is quite educated...so it's about the environment I grew up in. How did you pick ?

For what it's worth, I noticed the desire for education is more to do with upbringing than anything else: Kids from parents who have PhDs wouldn't dream of stopping before they at least have a Master's. People who don't bother with university often come from homes where nobody attended university. I feel education often has more to do with expectation than ability. Of course, truly intellectually challenged individual excepted. I wouldn't worry too much about checking out the qualifications for your donor though.

By the time we'd cut out the CMV positive donors and those with dark eyes (both our entire extended families have blue eyes), had sufficient motility, we were down to about 3 options! So we picked the one we thought sounded most like "our kind of person" in terms of hobbies, priorities, etc.

About the education level... I think that's far more about the environment you grow up in than literal "genetics" so I wouldn't worry about it. Nurture not nature.

We looked at donors (although didn't need them in the end). looks were less important to us as we have very different looks (one blonde, blue eyed and the other dark hair hair and brown eyes) so looks were less important to us. skin colour was the only thing as we are both as pasty as anything though have family who are more "araby" looking so would have been happy with that too.

I didn't find a huge amount of options to be honest. I think calm nature and importance in education are more of nurture thing than nature so i wouldn't stress too much. intelligence is inherited though so if that's important to you then i'd try and go with that

think you just get a feel for the right one for you. or just do eeny meeny miney mow

And did you pick based on the donor having kids or reported pregnancies ?

Nope. None reported for our donor and it didn't affect our decision at all.
