Warning - Long rambling post alert 😂

So, bit of background on me. I am 42 (just turned), irregular cycles, high bmi and suspected pcos and peri-menopause. We started ttc at Xmas and my last af was 1st Jan although it was super short and light for me at 2 days. So this is our first cycle ever ttc.

I decided not to test lh for the first month to try and keep things more natural before going batshit crazy with strips. I had some EWCM on CD11 so we bd and got to CD26, had loads of symptoms so did a few hcg tests and got to CD36 with all BFNs so I thought I would start testing for LH (knowing I can have long cycles). I was getting low ranging from 0.1-0.44, and CD45 went up to 0.72. From then it has been between 0.5 and 0.71. I was still doing the hcg tests as well just in case but of course they were all still BFN. I last tested CD49 at 0.56 so I thought stuff it, I'm not going to test anymore and just wait for af.

Well, I am impatient so tested yesterday (CD52) and it was 0.63. So last night I bought a bbt thermometer and thought I would stop testing now until it comes and then start again using that as well as the strips. At that point, I had lost all hopes of ovulation.

Until this morning! I had to get up at 2.30 to pee so thought I wouldn't test when i eventually get up. I got up at 6.30 and couldn't resist, not expecting anything, but the line was getting darker and darker. I scanned it into my app at 9mins, trying to leave it as long as possible in the window and it is high at 1.06. Arghhh, I am so excited, this is my first peak ever. I know I could still potentially not ovulate but my bbt thermometer is due today so hopefully I'll be able to confirm it.

The moral of the story is don't lose hope!! Well done if you got to this point without falling asleep 😴

Hi OP, that sounds positive you've finally got a peak LH. I also have irregular cycles and it can be very frustrating constantly testing. Just a point about the BBT thermometer though, you need to be taking your temp daily from day 1 of your cycle to establish a baseline before being about to determine a high temp.

Hi Op, thats great to hear. It’s what I needed to hear today too.
Bit of a different situation but I have irregular periods following years on the pill & then a MC. I’ve also given up tracking ovulation, so it’s good to hear I should hold onto hope 😊
