Missed period after positive ovulation test

Hiya,
just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before.. Had a positive ovulation test at CD17 on Clearblue (static smiley) after 4 days of flashing smileys. It’s now been 27 days and I still haven’t had a period. I have long and irregular cycles — 32 - 40 days — but never this long, and every time I’ve got a positive ovulation test I’ve had a period 14-17 days later, except the time I was pregnant.

For context I’m 30, no children, missed miscarriage last year at 12 weeks followed by D&C 😔 and been ttc for 9 months (inc 3 months of pregnancy). I’ve done about 10 negative pregnancy tests this time round and I’m pretty certain I don’t have PCOS as have had multiple blood tests and scans in the past for long cycles and all come back clear.

I have a gynaecologist appt at end of Feb but been very anxious since mmc and would love to hear from anyone who’s had similar experiences/any explanations!

xx

Have you been extra anxious or stressed ?

Have u lost or gained weight ?

Have u done Basel body temp ?

Livv94 · 30/01/2024 18:06

Not exactly particularly stressed but had a few very bad nights of sleep around the time I got the positive ov test. Could that be it? Haven’t lost or gained weight and don’t do temping

Chemical pregnancy ?

Order some numark very early tests?

worldwidetravel2017 · 30/01/2024 18:09

Cysts / fibroids etc can also delay things

Livv94 · 30/01/2024 18:18

Thanks very much.. will ask gynae about cysts. Don’t think can be chemical as I’ve tested most days of the last 2 weeks and never seen hint of a line!

The positive on an ovulation test shows the levels of luteinising hormone rising but that can happen, then drop a bit and not trigger ovulation. Then it can start rising again later. So you may not have actually ovulated when you thought you did. Fingers crossed that your period comes soon and then next month is your month.

This was me. I started taking BBT and realised I was not ovulating every time. No answers about why really yet (waiting for appt...), I haven't been successful. But it is possible to have the tests look like you're ovulating but for you to not actually be ovulating.

I highly recommend hertility health

Very indepth and relevent hormone and fertility tests - highly recommend.
150 gbp v well spent

My sister had meds to help her ovulation and has 2 children now

Thank you, was this before or after reaching out to the GP? I have blood test, scan and fertility clinic appointments all booked.

Update in case helpful. This cycle, 8 days after getting a positive OPK at CD18, I did a Progesterone blood test to find out if I’d actually ovulated. It came back very low. So I started doing OPKs again at CD21, got a blazing positive at CD28, and just got a BFP at CD38!

really recommend continuing to OPK test after the first peak — seems my body has the odd false alarm

good luck x
