What are my chances of twins after miscarrying twins?

Just to preface, I’m new here, and don’t plan on posting much in the near future. This is because I don’t have many plans on having a baby in the near future but was just wondering something:

I unexpectedly got pregnant in September. It was a rough pregnancy from the start, and I had no intentions of keeping the baby. I had to go to A&E as my workplace was worried I was having an ectopic pregnancy.

I wasn’t, but they kept calling me back in every two weeks for scans. This was strange, since I had no intentions of keeping the baby, but the hospital was adamant I couldn’t have an abortion until they determined if the baby was viable.

One of the visits, I was actually told I was pregnant with twins. Twins do not run in my family, so they would have been identical.

At this point, I was really contemplating the abortion.

As it turns out, nature took its course and the twins stopped growing. I had to wait another two weeks to confirm they stopped growing before I went ahead with a medical miscarriage.

Since then, I have maternal instincts I wasn’t aware I had. I have only just turned 20, so always felt too young to even consider maternal instincts.

I was just wondering what are my chances of having twins again? Is it higher now that I’ve already conceived twins, even though they’ve both passed before 12 weeks?

Any help greatly appreciated. I won’t be having a baby any time soon, but I do long for the day I get to have one.

No one can give an accurate estimation. I think if they don't run in your family then it's unlikely it will happen again.

Important thing is, when the time is right for you, there shouldn't be anything stopping you from conceiving more children.

I’ve had twins, as have several other women I know, without having them in my family history. DH also had none in his family history nor did my SIL’s DH but SIL had hers two years before I had mine and we both had single pregnancies either side of our twins. We both come from very large families too. None of the twins I know, apart from one set, are identical either and most of the women like me and SIL had single pregnancies before and/or afterwards.

So anecdotally IME you probably don’t have a higher chance of conceiving twins again than most other women. I’ve read that there is a higher chance of subsequent twin pregnancies but I haven’t seen that in RL. Probably something to bear in mind when you are ready to start a family though.

Sorry you’ve had a such a tough time and I hope you have RL support💐

I miscarried twins (at different stages of the pregnancy) then went on to have twins some years later.
