Pregnancy after coming off the pill mid-pack

LAPBx · 15/01/2024 13:19

We've decided to try for our 1st baby and are hoping to concieve January/February time. I'm 27 and been on the pill since I was 14.

I had my last bleed 16 Dec. I came off my pills on 31 December whilst half way through them. I had a minor withdrawal bleed on 1st Jan. I had another small bleed on 6th Jan. We DTD during and since that time.

Just a bit confused with timings now as I am technically due on this week but think it would be too early to do a test. I have been extremely bloated the last few days and had twinging sensations in my ovaries the last week. Also had loose bowels the last few days.

Weirdly havent had the usual period pains or sore boobs as I previously would but also aware my period may be out of wack since coming off my pills.

Has anyone fallen pregnant within the first month trying and coming off pills early?
Also, has anyone had the symptoms I am experiencing upon conception?

I know it would have been easier with timings if i finished the whole pack but due to timings of conception due to future plans we wanted to try asap. Thank you :)

With my first I stopped taking the pill, had a withdrawal bleed then one normal period and then got pregnant. It’s entirely possible you could be pregnant if you’re not using any contraception.
As you won’t know when you ovulated though it’ll be pretty hard to know if you DTD at the right time. With coming off the pill your symptoms could just be your body and hormones adjusting.
Generally if you DTD during ovulation then it’ll be a couple of weeks before you get a positive test. And longer before you get any pregnancy symptoms. There’s probably no point testing until early next week at the earliest.

Hi, hope you don’t mind me joining in as I’m in a similar position. I stopped the pill mid pack also, and a week later had a bleed which stopped and then I had some spotting but a little more 2 days later randomly and it stopped. Since then I’ve had one morning where I had very sharp stabbing pain on my right along with ewcm between this time. Since this I’ve been cramping every single day. My period is due the end of the month. Hate being clueless!

I’m trying for number 3..

All the best with your journey @LAPBx

LAPBx · 15/01/2024 14:32

@anonymous06 oh what a relief someone else is experiecing similar, I have no idea what to expect and yes, so hard not to think about it! Ive also had the same ovary pains and cramping. Fingers crossed, best of luck to you on your journey with number 3😊

@LAPBx Thank you.. It feels like number one all over again for me as my youngest is 8. One thing I do remember though with my first is when I stopped stressing about it, that’s the time I fell pregnant. I started vitamins that month and halfway through the vitamins I feel pregnant. I don’t think there was a correlation, just a coincidence. It’s really hard not to think about everything. They say it takes about 3 months for hormones to settle but yes there are people who get pregnant right away. My sister in laws sister conceived the first month after stopping contraception, so it is possible. I wish that’s us!

LAPBx · 22/01/2024 10:14

@anonymous06 how are you getting on?! Still no sign of period for me, technically I was due on 16th going by my pill dates. I did a test Friday morning and it was negative but I know it is early days. This weekend I had cramping and now sensitivity in the breast/nipple area but only time will tell! X

@LAPBx Hi, I hope you’re well.

Thank you for the update. I decided to log everything this time around so I can know what’s common and what’s not for me.

What you mentioned sounds promising! I do hope it’s your month.. fingers crossed.

I’ve been on/off, trying hard to not convince myself only to be disappointed.

Going off my pill dates, if my period doesn’t come I should be able to test by the end of the month.

After the spotting I mentioned in the previous post, I haven’t had any other bleeding. After a little search, I do think it was ovulation bleed but not guarantee it was. I’ve had lots of on and off cramping. Some cramping around pelvic region, both sides and lower abdomen. I did have some pain in my right side groin but I’m putting that down to my sciatica recently returning.

I had lots of egg white discharge, loads of it which I think was ovulation on 11th Jan. Since then I’ve been cramping on/off, had shooting pain in private area, I feel like I’ve been eating so much which I rarely do. Since the 18th Jan I’ve had lotion like discharge, looks more like glue sticks and it’s sometimes wet, sometimes thick, along with low and high cervix (all which I know aren’t indicators of pregnancy but I was just curious), no smell to any of this or infection symptoms so I know it’s not an infection.

On the 20th, I had some egg like discharge which I had when I supposedly ovulated which was strange.

What has thrown me off the most is last night (21 Jan), I had a lot of this glue type white discharge and I’ve never ever experienced this before. I searched it and some people say it’s pregnancy and some say period - so it’s tough lol! I’ve also had tingly boobs everyday. Cervix has sometimes been very high that I can’t reach, and sometimes mid, changing all the time.

Sorry for too much information - thought it would be helpful. I’ve been using the implant since 2015-2022, then went on the pill 2023 until dec 2023. When I stopped the implant I did have a small break and I felt strong pregnancy symptoms but turned out to be nothing. I realised I wasn’t really ready and started the mini pill. I know I’m ready now so decided to log my symptoms to see how it goes for me. I’m not stressing about it, finding it knowledgeable to learn about my body.

Crossing all my fingers for you! It would be amazing to catch the first time!

HalloumiGeller · 22/01/2024 12:28

You're only 27, so honestly don't "try" to get pregnant at this stage, just relax and let your body get back into its natural cycle after being on the pill for so long, and have sex as you normally would.

It took my body 2 months for my cycle to get back to normal after coming off the pill, and 6 months to fall pregnant with my 2nd child (I was 27/28). This time its taken 3 cycles (I had a copper coil so no hormonal contraception) want my bloody tubes tied next though!

Unfortunately tingly boobs mean nothing! I had that so was convinced I was pregnant, but nope, period arrived 2 days later! Same happend years back when trying for my 2nd, aching/tingly boobs but no baby! This time I didn't really suspect anything until my period was 4 days late x

anonymous06 · 22/01/2024 12:55

@HalloumiGeller lol exactly this! The times I was actually pregnant, tbh I don’t remember. I do remember my areola darkened and that’s what made me suspicious. I didn’t bother symptom spotting and when my period didn’t arrive, that’s when I did the test. Hence why I said I’m noting all this down but I know it can all mean nothing. Unfortunately, pms and pregnancy can be very similar.

After it happened to me twice I literally stopped symptom watching and just waited for my period to be late! I very loosely tracked my ovulation (no sticks, I just kept a close eye on my body). By the time we got to our 3rd cycle I was pretty relaxed about it, and thought if it happens great, but if it doesn't then its fine (I was 38) it then happened and I swear it's because we relaxed about it and stopped "trying".

anonymous06 · 22/01/2024 13:05

@HalloumiGeller i completely agree - that’s what I did with previous pregnancies. I never symptom spotted, never googled, just enjoyed the process and it happened. I think maybe because I’m now 33, so things can decline. I’m not tracking ovulation, I just went off my body.

anonymous06 · 24/01/2024 09:58

@LAPBx I had a dream last night that I was testing with a first response (the only tests I use) and I got a positive. I remember saying in the dream ‘I knew it, I knew it’. Don’t know if my subconscious is playing with me or hopefully it’s a sign. Don’t know what to think at this point lol

LAPBx · 25/01/2024 22:36

@anonymous06 that is so weird because I woke up this morning from a vivid dream where I was in a meeting at work and I was holding a positive test!! I had a really stressful meeting today so the two things have both clearly been on my mind!! I hope its a sign for you, but if not we will get there girl!! Trust the process ❤️ Still no sign of period for me and I'm still holding out until Monday before testing x

@LAPBx Bless you. Most definitely, I do think what’s on our minds can come into our dreams. Im on a work break at the moment but going back soon, so hopefully that will keep me busy, fingers crossed. You’re right, it’s only our first months, and we’d be very lucky but we will get there! I’ve got hope.. I had strange colostrum today, so strange. I noticed it in the shower yesterday and ignored it, but it appeared again today! Honestly.. I feel like my body is playing multiple games lol.. best of luck to everyone trying to conceive and particularly yourself .. lots of love ❤️

no sign of a period for me either, and no usual symptoms relating to it xx

mummabubs · 25/01/2024 23:16

It's physically possible. With oir first I came off the pill in December, got married two days weeks later and had my positive pregnancy test by the end of January whilst on honeymoon 😅 I think my DH was actually gutted as he'd hoped we'd have a few months of regular ttc sex before I turned into a vomiting, hormonal,overly-emotional and ever expanding person 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

LAPBx · 26/01/2024 06:25

@anonymous06it sounds promising! Time will tell 😊 I have everything crossed for you, I will check back in here on 31st with test results🤞 x

@mummabubsI love this for you! What a lovely story on honeymoon too! The reason we want to concieve is because he recently proposed and we want our wedding around 2026 but would like to have a baby first. I think my DH would be the same on the ttc although my DH is a bit older than me so I think he'd be happier if I fell sooner!! Did you get any symptoms or just decided to test after a certain amount of time?

Harriet1989 · 26/01/2024 07:48

Jumping on as I was similar - I stopped the pill, had withdrawal bleeding a few weeks later and then my first cycle was 45 days. I was convinced I must be pregnant as was feeling nauseous (I had morning sickness the first time around), was really hungry and had funny twinges that didn't feel like period pains.. but then did get a proper first period. This was my first true cycle and I had the same symptoms before my period started (and got a false positive after taking night nurse :( )

It took about 3 months last time for my cycle to settle down and I was 29 then, (37 now) so I totally agree with all the other advice. Good luck everyone!

mummabubs · 26/01/2024 07:51

@LAPBx Honestly had no symptoms at all. Tested on the day I thought my period would be due, negative. Then again 2 days later and still negative. But still no peri, hence on day 5 my husband having to mime "pregnancy test" in a Hungarian pharmacy another 2 days later! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
Good luck, hope it happens quickly for you!

anonymous06 · 26/01/2024 15:18

@LAPBx looking forward to good news. I’ve still no sign of af although crampy. Had the thick white discharge again. My friend said she had this the cycle she found out, so fingers crossed. Xx

namechange59574 · 26/01/2024 15:33

If you came off the pill beginning of January two weeks later the ovary twinges are more likely to be caused by ovulation.
I would also forget the pill period as it's not a real period.
I was similar to you coming off the pill after a long time on it. When you're on the pill you do not ovulate so you won't be use to what that can feel like. I sometimes have ovulation pain which is like abit of a pulling in my side. Discharge is also different depending on your cycle.
If you don't get pregnant this cycle your next period will be an actual period so will be easier to start working out your cycle. For many women their cycle is between 28-33 days long and you would normally ovulate in the middle so day 14-16.
When I came off the pill my cycles were everywhere and the doctor said it can take easily 6 months for your body to start doing things on its own again.
Hope you get your positive soon.

LAPBx · 29/01/2024 08:45

@anonymous06 sadly two negatives this morning :( I had a feeling it would be. My DH was sat waiting and looked disheartened but I told him its early days. I will do another next week if still no sign of period x

OP posts:
anonymous06 · 29/01/2024 09:18

Hi! Sorry to hear that.. I got a negative too. And period started. I knew it myself as I’ve heard after coming off the pill the first few months are whack with hormones. I was the same when I first came off the implant, but thought it may be different with the pill. It’s crazy though how strong my symptoms were! I’m just glad I got my period so at least I can now track my cycle. So far it’s 29 day cycle and I’m usually 28 days. Best of luck for the future.. it will happen when you least expect it xxx
