Coq10 and other recommended supplements delaying ovulation?

Hi everyone,

Just posting in case someone experienced something similar or has any insight. My husband and I have been TTC our first for a few months now. My cycles are pretty regular (32 days on average with ovulation around day 19).

I spoke recently with a fertility specialist who recommended a few supplements to increase our chances so I’ve been taking these for about two months now. I’m currently on CD21 with no ovulation in sight with LH tests or in my bbt chart. This is very unlike me as I’m usually like clockwork. I also noticed a big increase in spots particularly on my chin which I normally never get. Still no sign of fertile CM either.

Other than that I actually feel like I have more energy than ever and feel great! Which is why I’m reluctant to stopping supplements.

Has anyone experienced this before? I’m suspecting either ubiquinol Coq10, vitamin B6 or Ashwagandha is the culprit here.

Keen to see if anyone else had a similar experience? Or if anyone has had a positive BBT after a delayed ovulation?

I’m not sure but I went to see a naturopath and she also told me to take the CoQ10 and my ovulation is normally quite bang on but this time I ovulated three days later which isn’t normal for me. So maybe that is a thing? She never told me it will delay ovulation though

It’s so strange isn’t it. I did a bit more digging last night and saw that a lot of people reported a delayed ovulation with vitamin B6 as well so I will stop taking it. Apparently in some people it can lower oestrogen levels so if you never had an issue with oestrogen dominance to begin with, it can delay it. So that might explain it in my case. I started taking it because a blood test showed I had slightly elevated levels of prolactin but I will stop now and see how it goes.

Fingers crossed I haven’t missed ovulation for this month now. A few people on forums have noticed something similar about coq10 probably because it’s meant to help egg quality. So perhaps your body is just taking a bit more time to release it which is not necessarily always a bad thing?

I think I was told to take it because I had high oestrogen levels so makes sense. I’ll keep using it but I definitely noticed a delay in ovulation this month

@Vim22 did you ovulate in the cycle in the end?

only I’ve been taking Coq10 for around 6 weeks now my last cycle I ovulated on CD14 which is the earliest ever! Usually around CD16/17 this cycle I’m in CD20 and still not got a positive LH so I’m wondering if it’s messed up my cycle.

Vim22 · 10/02/2024 15:59

@Roseberry22 yes I did, I must have ovulated a bit earlier than I thought as my LH levels drop very quickly after ovulation and I had only tested from CD17. My ovulation was confirmed with my BBT natural cycles app. It wasn’t my month though and back on the two week wait as we speak with next cycle!

I think it was the high doses of vitamin B6 I was taking that was messing with me a little so I stopped it. Continued with Coq10 and this cycle I was right on queue with all the right mucus, cervical position, LH test and BBT confirming ovulation. Could be a fluke sometimes cycles can be a bit off for various reasons which is super annoying when you’re TTC.

good luck! X

@Vim22 can I ask what day you ovulated confirmed with BBT?

My BBT still seems miles off! We’ve been TTC for 8 months so we’re hoping for our BFP soon, it’s just so hard isn’t it.

sending you all the luck for this TWW x

I ovulated cycle day 18 which is the day I took my first LH test and my levels had already gone down which is why I never got my peak that cycle. I sometimes ovulate as late as day 21 though and my LH test usually is at 0.70 the day before my peak, around 1.2 peak on day before ovulation and on day of ovulation back down to 0.30 so it drops very quickly. Good luck I’m sure you’ll get your peak! Some cycles are just a bit longer sometimes.

I get it’s so hard TTC sometimes. We’re only on month 5 so can’t even imagine for this who struggle for years. My heart goes out. Did you get any tests done just to check everything is ok on your side and your partner’s side?

My partner had a sperm analysis which wasn’t great so it might takes us a bit longer to conceive. I’m very type A so I’ve read just about every other book out there and we’ve done big changes around the house and our nutrition. Another test in two months so fingers crossed parameters are better then or we conceive by then. X

Ah that makes sense! I’m hoping I’ll get a positive Lh tomorrow on CD21 that’s the latest I will have ever got one while testing otherwise I think I’ll be out this cycle without ovulating which is strange.

I know I imagine it gets so difficult and worrying the more the months go on, fingers crossed for us both that we get our BFPs before then!!

No we haven’t had any tests yet, I think we’ll try for the full year and then get booked in.

The last few months I’ve ovulated around day 10 or 11 and AF 23 or 24 days. When AF started at 22 days last month I started Proceive Max this month and suddenly ovulation moved to around day 17. I’m day 25 now and no sign of AF yet which makes a nice change! I suppose reading the other posts it’ll be the Vitamin Bs.
