On a family holiday around ovulation… what do I do?!

NC to be anonymous! We’re going away with extended family (sharing accommodation) and my ovulation will likely fall in the middle of it.

We go away when I am on CD14 and I usually ovulate on day 16 or 17.

Does anyone have any ideas? Don’t want to miss our window but not sure what to do and whether trying to DTD while away is silly… don’t want to be heard or for anyone to come back and find us 😀😀 I am racking my brains but I really can’t think of anything.

How on earth do you think people used to pro-create in generations gone by when families used to be all in one room or shared houses?!

I've never let people sleeping in a room next door stop me having a love life with my husband and I don't intend to start now even now our eldest is a teen. Didn't even let family staying over Christmas stop it either, just kept quiet 🤷‍♀️

It's a perfectly normal suggestion that I often see suggested on these boards. How do you think people get pregnant with a sperm donor ?

Of course it's not 'perfectly normal' to not have sex with your spouse in order to get pregnant, when on a family holiday, and instead use an amateur insemination method.

Just do it quietly, if the bed creeks do it on the floor. However if you do get pregnant that month it may become the family joke. If anyone asks when our child’s birthday is/age and a family hear it they will always laugh and chip in with significant family event plus nine months ha ha. Even our child knows now and thinks it’s funny.

We just stayed at the in-laws over Christmas along with my husband's siblings and my own mum. 10 of us in one house. You better believe we DTD 5 times in 7 days. Nothing was going to stop us. We had a couple of late nights, two early mornings etc. You're on holiday, what a perfect opportunity to 'sleep in'!

As people have already said, if this is weird for you, you won't be having sex for 18 years once you have kids, they are always in the next room.

Just have sex. You’ve got your own room. I really think it’s OTT to worry if someone will hear you, as long as you’re quiet about it, and not vocal 😅

I know what you mean, op. Hard to relax anyway. I wouldn't in my parents' house and we're not noisy, there's no need to be! Just feels weird and disrespectful.

Try in the days before you go so the sperm is ready and waiting and then use the suggestions above when away!

If it worries you that much then skip a month. If you care more about TTC then just have sex.

If you worry that much about adults hearing you surely you would worry more when you have kids and them hearing you?

Adults have sex though why would you have to wait until you go home even if you weren’t trying to conceive. It would be different if yo were screaming and swinging from the chandelier but surely you can have sex quietly?

Would you really? I've occasionally heard friends over the years (a long time ago now as don't go away on such holidays now). I either didn't think anything at all or thought 'good for them!'

I'm fine, but thank you for your concern. Op asked for some suggestions. Some people prefer not to have sex with their parents in the next room and I think that's also perfectly okay. Some people prefer different things. No need to be mean to me. If you didn't like the suggestion you could have just not said anything rather than making me feel rubbish.

But surely you can see that suggesting a home version of insemination, rather than just having sex, is a little unusual? It's really not in any way what most people would choose.

I personally don't see an issue but I think maybe because I've got many single by choice / gay friends who've done that route, it really just doesn't phase me.

I know many straight couples who have done it that way and it has been a success. Having sex a lot can be hard on people and time consuming. I see this suggested a lot on this conception board. Perhaps I've just picked the wrong crowd on here.

Just be discreet about it, I’m pretty sure my current pregnancy was conceived whilst visiting my parents for the weekend as that’s when my window fell!
