Hi everyone!

Is it possible 5months PP to get pregnant if your period hasn’t come back yet and EBF?
Partner has been pulling out (sorry for TMI!) and I am not on contraception (progesterone only options don’t suit me and I can’t have the copper coil). Just wondering what the chances are as we are not hoping to conceive again just yet! Has anyone fallen pregnant in a similar situation?

Yes it is possible

aqenek · 27/12/2023 09:18

Yes possible, you never know when you might start ovulating again.

KingsArmy · 27/12/2023 09:20

Totally possible. I fell pregnant again 12 weeks after giving birth.

Bert2e · 27/12/2023 09:38

Completely possible, this is why MW ask about contraception when you leave hospital. How is baby fed? Breast or formula? If you don't want another baby just yet please sort out your contraception and stop relying on withdrawal.

firsttimemum1212 · 27/12/2023 09:53

It is when you are most fertile!!

Olika · 27/12/2023 09:56

NHS website says you can get pregnant as little as 3 weeks after giving birth.

CeeChynaa · 27/12/2023 09:57

It is. I had no period and was pregnant again when my baby was only 8/9 weeks or something silly like that!

It always amazes me that women of child baring age, who have just had a baby, need to ask whether they can conceive when not using any contraception!!!
Yes, of course you can! The hospital or your midwife would have gone through suitable contraceptive options for you 5+ mths ago!

Best friend had years of fertility problems, but fell pregnant 2mths after baby was born! She had twins, so 3 babies under 18mths! 😮

I have 2 13 months apart. Breast feeding and no period when conceived the 2nd. We were aware of the risk but we'd had 4 years of infertility and wanted a 2nd child so if it happened we were fine about it.

barbarahunter · 27/12/2023 10:25

Very possible, it happened to me.

Hjudge56 · 27/12/2023 10:43

@SM4713 my question was not can we conceive without contraception- it was can we conceive if our cycles have not returned.. perfectly fair to ask so let’s relax on the judgemental tone 😊

thank you everyone else for your informative and non judgey responses 😆

The way to look at it is that when you have a period it is basically your body expelling an unfertilised egg. So you will always be fertile before your period arrives, at least once.

Lalalanding · 27/12/2023 10:48

Possible but not probable if EBF and baby not using a soother or getting bottles.

riverlodge90 · 27/12/2023 11:44

@Hjudge56 Yes because you'll ovulate 10-16 days before your first period. So you wouldn't know your cycle had returned.
