AF 2 days late - when did you get a bfp?

For context, I'm 37, TTC #2. Had 1 mmc and 1 CP before being given progesterone. Last month got a very faint bfp so started progesterone straight away. Sadly it was another CP.

This cycle, no sign of AF turning up (I was due Christmas Eve) so decided to start the progesterone just in case rather than wait until I get a bfp.

I'm now 2 days late, tested Christmas Eve on a frer, bfn. Tested yesterday and this morning on One Step strips, bfn. Plan to use a frer tomorrow.

Got achey boobs on and off and the occasional bit of an and off cramping but that's it (I never really got any signs with my DS so this is quite normal for me). Neither feel like my usual period aches. My cycles are always around 27 days, I've only ever had 1 or 2 longer ones at 28/29 days but I'd still got my usual signs.

The tests being negative though are confusing the crap out of me. Apart from last cycle not having a bfp until the day AF was due they've always picked things up early.

Has anyone else not had a bfp until quite late after AF was due?

I didn’t get my BFP until I was 9 days after AF was due. All to play for OP x

@KaySararSarar oh wow! Thank you, that gives me hope 😊

I usually get my bfp a few days before AF is due. Chemical pregnancies can throw your next cycle off so hopefully that's not the case for you x

RoseH36 · 26/12/2023 10:38

@Ttcmumma that's what mine is normally like too. My last CP didn't impact my cycle at all so didn't think this one would either, especially as it went from bfp to bfn literally in the space of 2 days. I treated the bleed as the start of a new cycle like last time and OPKs said I peaked at the time I would do normally. So who knows 🤷‍♀️

If your cycle is regular and period is late, can assume test result is 99% accurate.

Especially if you know when you ovulated (e.g. 16 days ago, ).

@Outliers time to give up this cycle then and assume its just a weird long one 😪

Well hopefully either you're in 1% due to irregularities or you conceive your child in the next cycle. It will happen eventually though.

Best of luck

@Outliers thank you. Wish I shared your optimism. We've had 15 months of trying though so only giving it another few cycles before we give up.

@RoseH36 progesterone delays your period for most women, if you're on progesterone from after ovulation they say to take a test 14dpo and if it's negative you stop the progesterone to let your period come. You should really follow the doctor's instructions when taking medication (sorry if that sounds harsh but unfortunately you've probably put yourself in a more stressful situation unnecessarily).

This isn't to say you wouldn't be pregnant this month as some people don't get bfps until a few days after af is due though, but you'll need to stop progestorone at some point if your tests are negative.

RoseH36 · 26/12/2023 21:05

@moosey89 I've only been on it since the 22nd, and that was just the 1 pessary that day. AF was due the 24th so I highly doubt it will have delayed anything in that short space of time. I was getting zero signs of AF which is why I started on it just in case. I'm not to take it from ovulation, only from a positive test but it didn't have chance to work last cycle hence deciding to start it just before I was due on as I was convinced I was pregnant.

Yea but your instructions were to take it from a positive test, which is what I meant. I'm no doctor so I don't know what dose would impact your cycle but I wouldn't rule it out having an impact.

Ttcmumma · 26/12/2023 21:52

Ah it's very likely messed with your cycle! Progesterone levels drop before your period begins, so with you giving yourself extra progesterone you have delayed the period being able to start

RoseH36 · 27/12/2023 08:10

@moosey89 @Ttcmumma thanks both. Will call the consultant next week and see I'd I can take it earlier going forwards. It all happened so fast last cycle that it wasn't given a chance to work so wanted to give myself the best shot this time round given the fact I had zero of my usual PMT signs 2 days before AF was due.
