Early testing because of Christmas

Hi all

It took 2 years to get pregnant with my first so don't know why I'm thinking this time will be any easier! But we started trying for our second a few months ago I am due on my period the 27th December, I'm tempted to get an early testing kit so I know if I can enjoy a few drinks over Christmas, my mum said back in the day they would just carry on as normal until they completely missed a period, I've never liked early testing because of chemical pregnancies, I don't normally drink much but the odd glass of wine with a dinner so don't really think about it normally but Christmas I do like some fizz and baileys! What's everyone else do during the TWW?

If you buy an early one then you could test on 22nd.

TTCnewbies · 19/12/2023 15:30

I'm going to carry on as normal personally but I'm due on closer to New Year. I'm not going to go crazy but will not stop to have a few drinks. I am month 4 TTC and told myself I would not drink post ovulation and then I realised that TTC is not as easy as you'd think and so I'm not going to completely stop my life. I'm not a big drinker anyway though.

moosey89 · 19/12/2023 15:31

I'm due my period new year's Day and will be testing a day early for new year's eve as I will want to drown my sorrows 🤣 during the tww usually I just carry on with life. My TTC journey has been long and it's not worth stopping living life!

TTCnewbies · 19/12/2023 15:31

Meant to add that I will do the same over new year. We are with family and I will have 1 prosecco as a toast and will test on day of period / missed period. Which is due a day after NY.

hol92 · 19/12/2023 15:40

@TTCnewbies well I'm due around 27-29th as I'm a bit irregular, I know if I turn down a baileys the family will think I'm pregnant and I don't want that or even for them to think I'm trying as don't want the pressure! I'll probably have a few then I don't go mad normally anyway only with food haha :D

@TTCnewbies also best of luck to you ❤️ I also think it's important not to stop living your life, as only adds extra stress than what it already is! X

@moosey89 I dont blame you! I was exactly the same, it felt like it would never happen but it did, wishing you all the luck for this month ❤️

@Olika I'm quite irregular so between 27th and 29th I think is when I'm due, I've never tested early before only on the day of my period if it hadn't arrived already! What brand would you use ? X

Thanks @hol92 - I've had so many months of disappointment over the years, it still hurts every time but I'm kinda used to it now if that makes sense! Find it hard to believe it'll ever be a bfp again (2 pregnancies, 2 losses over multiple years of TTC so far) but I still don't want to have a heavy night without testing just in case!

Olika · 19/12/2023 15:51

I would use ClearBlue Ultra Early or First Response.
On another note it might not matter if you do drink that early even if you were pregnant. I had a cider when I was 5 weeks pregnant as I hadn't tested yet. On another thread someone said it doesn't really matter until later but cannot remember the details of that.

YetiSeven · 19/12/2023 15:59

I was on my honeymoon when I conceived my little one. Alcohol, hot tubs, hiking you name it I did it 😂 it takes 10-12 days for implantation of a embryo into your uterus so it receives nothing from the mother prior to this and even then, it's 10 weeks ish for a placenta to form so your baby really won't be affected by a few social drinks 😊 I have a very happy healthy 10 month old to prove it!

Aww thank you. All the best to you too!
Tbh I can also take or leave drinking but I also don't want any comments from family either (which is so bad that society assumes in this way!!) So I'll have a couple of glasses over the festive week which will shut down any TTC suspicions!

MrsB2019x · 19/12/2023 20:48

Yup 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m due on 27th and I think I’m gonna test on Christmas Eve to see if I can drink to suffer through my MIL 😂

TTCnewbies · 23/12/2023 14:39

Anyone tested early yet? I think I ovulated possibly Tuesday so I'm way off from testing yet but I know some of you were ahead of me.

jellyfish2210 · 23/12/2023 15:19

AF due tomorrow. Took an e@h test this morning which had the faintest line that I think I imagined. Couldn't wait till tomorrow so got a clear blue ultra early test and not sure if I am imagining this line or not? What do you guys think? We have been trying for almost a year

Aw congratulations! That's positive! What a magical Christmas present. I found out I was pregnant with my son on Christmas Eve, and my daughter on 1st December. You'll have an August baby. Wonderful news!

TTCnewbies · 23/12/2023 15:31

@jellyfish2210 congratulations! I can see the line :)

I'm going to test NYE. I've already bought some boots 5 day early tests but not told my partner. We are both away now for over a week (separate for a bit, together for some) but I'll wake up NYE and test before he wakes up. Not holding out much hope really, we are month 4 of trying and had no luck yet.

I think next month we may get some home insemination stuff to try that too.

jellyfish2210 · 23/12/2023 15:44

I've just been and bought one of the ridiculously expensive digital ones. Will wait till tomorrow to take it. I have just been diagnosed with thyroid issues and I'm overweight so basically a lot can still go wrong but bursting at the prospect of it being positive!!

jellyfish2210 · 24/12/2023 11:11

Got my hopes up too soon. Heavy bleeding this morning. Gutted! At least I can enjoy a Christmas drink or two!

MrsB2019x · 24/12/2023 12:15

@jellyfish2210 I’m so sorry 😔

MrsB2019x · 24/12/2023 12:17

I got my BFP this morning 🥰

Good luck for NYE @TTCnewbies , keep us updated!

@MrsB2019x congratulations! Lovely news!

TTCnewbies · 28/12/2023 16:19

@MrsB2019x congratulations!

Anyone else test ?

I'm actually going to test Sat and Sun. Been feeling really bloated all week but it's probably just the food ha!
It actually would be better for us to not be pregnant this month and be better in Jan but we didn't want to stop trying. So we will see!
