Stopped DTD on ovulation day, was this too early?

I am new to all this and wondered if we stopped DTD too early.

I ovulated on Tuesday (well I got a peak on Mon so presume it was Tuesday).

We DTD on Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue.

However I’ve seen a lot of posts on here where people DTD on the day after ovulation just in case ovulation was delayed etc.

Given that 90-95% of sperm don’t live longer than 48 hours, next months should we DTD on the day after ovulation too?

It's rare to get pregnant on tbe day of ovulation and virtually impossible to get pregnant the day afterwards. This is because sperm need several hours inside the reproductive tract before they are capable of fertilising an egg, and an egg can live at most for 24 hours post ovulation.
The best days to conceive are one and two days before you ovulate so I'd say you covered that off.

The only issue you could have is if you either ovulate late or don't always ovulate after your LH surge (women with PCOS for example may have several surges before finally releasing an egg). If you were to just have sex every 2-3 days through your cycle you would have this covered.

The sperm can reach fallopian tube/ the egg in 15mins. But can take hours for a sperm to break into egg and fertilise.

People do day after as a into precautionary measure, but likely you have enough sperm there to do the job.

It's a game of chance really. Some people do it every day for a week and don't get pregnant. Some do it once 3/4 days before ovulation and find themselves pregnant. Good luck

Hi @TheVelvetSide

Sounds like you had it all covered. I apparently ovulated on 3rd, dtd a few days before and 2 days after, but not on the day of ovulation (I cant remember why). Hopefully there was enough up there waiting for the egg.

Some of the things mentioned above I didn't know. Learn something new everyday being on here!

Good luck x

I always got pregnant when we had sex the day before ovulation.

Not every vagina keeps sperm alive for 12 or 24 hours. Not every sperm lives for 12/24 hours. So it won't work for everyone. To maximise chances DTD on the day. Doing it 4 times before will dilute sperm. Need cool boxers too. Not too hot! Ewcm on the last day you make ewcm is the best predictor of ovulation. Are you using ewcm?

The Lifespan of a Sperm inside Vagina
A healthy sperm can live from a couple of hours to as long as five days after intercourse. The lifespan of the sperm inside the vagina depends entirely on the environment they are in. The specificities of the woman’s uterus, vagina, and fallopian tubes determine the lifespan of the sperm.
Having a fertile cervical fluid will increase the survival rates of the sperm inside the vagina.

@Flyhigher Interesting, not heard of sperm diluting, will look into that. I thought the more sperm that gets up there in time waiting for egg, the merrier

Does one always get EWCM a day before ovulation? My bbt chart suggests I ovulated on 3rd Dec but I didnt have EWCM a day or a couple of days before, was more sticky and moist, but I had EWCM around 24th Nov. Making me think if the chart is wrong, or is it possible to have a gap between EWCM and the actual day one ovulates.

If you haven't had sex for a while it's 400 million sperm. If you do it every day for three days you make less. Maybe 200 million. Even if you make 21 million sperm you are considered infertile. I didn't know that before. So many get lost on the way. Many don't make it past the vagina. To get into the uterus. Half may go the wrong way into the wrong tube.

My understanding is that ovulation happens with the last day you make ewcm.
