Shortening cycles and spotting

New poster here...
I had a baby almost 2 years ago (fell pregnant quickly, missed miscarriage at 9 weeks and luckily fell pregnant again straight away) and my cycles retuned to normal (28 days ish ) pretty quickly.

For about 6 months I've been having spotting around a week before my period, and my cycles have shortened to 25ish days.

Period is due in 4 days (that would take me to a 27 day cycle) but I started spotting browny pink discharge yesterday and today it’s heavier almost to the point where I think it’s my period (22 day cycle if it is 😔)

We're not wanting another baby right now, but hoping to try within the next year but I’m so worried about my fertility and there being an issue. I keep reading about perimenopause and it terrifies me!

Has anyone else had this issue and things been ok? Or have any advice? Thank you!

This sounds like my issue I've always had 34-36 day cycles and over the months they have became shorter and spotting mid cycle. My last cycle being 20 days!! I don't think I'm ovulating because I can not find a peak and I had a ultra sound that had no mature eggs when there should have been but everything looks normal. I've also had bloods done which showed low prolactin levels and elevated testosterone. I'm waiting for appointment with endocrinologist. I'm 31 also have a nearly 3 year old. My advise is go to your gp and get some bloods done and go from there. It's so frustrating I get it and I sympathise xx

This exact thing happened to me - the second half of my cycle dropped down to 8/9 days. I was also very concerned that I wouldn't get pregnant again... but I did!! I know this might not be helpful from a medical point of view as I have no idea what was going on physically, but what I do know is that it was fine in terms of getting pregnant and hopefully that is reassuring to you. Having said that, it's a good idea to talk it over with a doctor.

@Jadeypie Thank you so much for the reply! I need to get in touch with my doctors but not sure they’ll take it seriously- from what I’ve read online they say it’s ‘normal’. I’ll try and get an appointment booked in between Christmas and new year!
What does low prolactin and high testosterone mean? Is it anything to worry about or is it easily sorted? Xx

@bethepeace thank you! That’s really reassuring to hear 🤞🏻 did you get the spotting too or just a shorter second half of your cycle? I’m so torn between wanting to try again- just to see if it actually happens- or wait! I can’t remember what my cycles were like before I got pregnant as I was on the pill and the implant before that (although that didn’t work for me at all!) x

Yes exactly the same, the spotting too... and I still do so I have no idea what's that's about but I'm definitely ovulating. I used an ovulation test kit and and took loads of vitamins etc and it happened. I'm not saying ignore it, defo go to the doctor but hopefully what I've said at least shows it's possible!

@bethepeace Thank you so much! Do you mind me asking what vitamins you took? I’m taking a few atm including Vit B complex and a cycle support of some kind that has a few things in (not convinced it’s doing much but it’s a strawberry gummy so a bit of a treat every morning 🤣) x

Yes so that's what I took, vitamin B etc. I remember it being about low progesterone but I never explored that further because I had a blood test that said progesterone was fine - but might be worth asking your GP? I took iron too I think, basically just a good multi vitamin, I also ate super healthy (which isn't my usual diet I have to confess) x

@Mumof12022 oh it can be normal for so many people but just wasn't normal for me that's why I went the gp. And I have no clue what those levels really mean but it is interfering with my ovulation and cycles so I'm just waiting for my endocrinologist appointment (they are hormones specialists). I just went to the gp and told them about the spotting not being my normal and they just sent me for tests. If it's worrying you no harm in seeing a Dr xx
