OPK & BBT don’t match up?

Hi everyone,
I got my positive OPK on 13th this month. I was on holiday & didn’t wear my sensor to track bbt on the night flight home so I missed CD14 temp. My app has put my predicted fertile window later this cycle as I ovulated CD17 last month. I had physical symptoms of ovulation as well but now my bbt has dipped so no confirmation of ovulation? I’m worried I haven’t ovulated now? Can someone offer some insight!? Thankyou x

Mine didn’t match either but I ovulated. Judging from opk and cervix position and mucus I ovulated Wednesday on cd14 but bbt doesn’t show that. If I only went by cervix and mucus I would have thought ovulation was Monday on cd12. The app has marked it on cd18 which I know is wrong because temps were already too high for ovulation and I didn’t have ewcm.

It's too soon to tell. Wait a few more days and see what happens to your temps. Coming back from holiday/any time difference might mess your BBT around a bit, and your temps taken on holiday might be different to usual too. Or you might not have ovulated yet (could you do some more OPKs to check?).

If you're TTC, it's worth carrying on trying until your sure you ovulated.

@omgz thanks so much for your reply! I was in the Caribbean so it was a 4 hour time difference, and I’ve not been sleeping well since I got home I’m waking up at different times everyday. I’ve signed up to FF this morning and added all my temps in and that’s actually confirmed my ovulation

@emmatcc1 oh wow that gives me some reassurance Thankyou so much x

@omgz i also did opk’s this morning & they were negative x

@GeorgeR28 The only way I will truly know when I ovulated will be when af arrives. It’s so confusing because my temps always follow the same pattern of 36.3-36.6-36.8. So cd12 and 13 are low enough for my ovulation temps.

GeorgeR28 · 23/11/2023 12:50

@emmatcc1it’s so frustrating isn’t it! How long have you been ttc?
I got pregnant so easily the first time not tracking anything but that ended in a MC sadly. Now tracking my ovulation to try get pregnant asap and all it does is upset me 😂

@GeorgeR28 I’m on cycle 17 so it’s been a while. Last couple of months I have only been tracking with cervix position which has been accurate. I really wonder how this cycle turns out and when my af arrives.

GeorgeR28 · 23/11/2023 14:25

Oh really! How do you do that if you don’t mind me asking?

emmatcc1 · 23/11/2023 15:21

@GeorgeR28 It takes practice but with time you can feel a clear difference between open and closed cervix. This way you can also get cervical mucus right from the cervix which is more accurate. I figured I ovulate middle of night/ early morning because when I wake up my cervix is closed again, I think most people ovulate at that time that’s why dtd the day before is best.

BBT tests are given too much credit imo. There are a long list of factors than can affect temperate outside of cycle.

I would trust LH tests more.

BBT is only really accurate when done vaginally

Possibly. But there are still other factors and temperature spikes can occur after ovulation has already happened. Of course everyone's body is different but I do find LH more scientific indicator.

GeorgeR28 · 23/11/2023 17:08

@Outliers thanks so much! So you think I still go with what my LH tests said? I did three types of tests also.. clear blue digital advanced and two different brands of strip tests

@Mamato29192 Really! I wear the sensor on the inside of my arm so that could still be inaccurate? My sleeping pattern has been all over the place also

But they only tell you when ovulation is about to happen not when it happens. BBT is definitely more accurate

Mamato29192 · 23/11/2023 17:23

Also it's not a guarantee that it's happened*

Yep. I only did one month vaginally and fell pregnant. Obviously other factors involved but its definitely accurate.

emmatcc1 · 23/11/2023 19:03

I did one cycle orally and switched to vaginally, definitely more accurate.

GeorgeR28 · 23/11/2023 19:04

@Mamato29192 l think with OvuSense if you haven’t fallen pregnant within 3 months they send you the vaginal one for free so hopefully if I don’t get lucky this month I’ll get one of those and see a difference. Is it really uncomfortable to wear?

GeorgeR28 · 23/11/2023 19:05

@Mamato29192 is it common for the Lh to surge but ovulation not happen? I’ve never had that happen to me

It has happened to some. But don't let it discourage you

I just used a BBT thermometer wasn't uncomfortable. So I can't imagine ovusense one to be

Whatever works for you. I'm currently 5weeks from the first attempt so just saying what works for me

Stripe tests from Boots or another retailer work fine. I prefer them over CB. Test on your 2nd urination, e.g. between 10am-2pm. Once you have a strong positive I would suggest just doing it every other day, until a day or two past ovulation.
