Can an ultrasound affect a very early pregnancy?

I’m probably worrying over nothing - I’m not pregnant and it’s very unlikely I will be (again - been ttc for 24 cycles now) BUT I have to have an ultrasound (TV) in the week before my period is due to check for endometriosis, I think it’s to look at uterus and surrounding area and the blood flow (so maybe not a normal scan ?? I’m not sure )

Of course in worrying that as it’s in the 2ww what if this month is my lucky month and then if I have this scan could it affect possible implantation? Or will it be fine (as like I said the chances are probably low anyway)
Thankyou !

No, it won't affect anything. Ultrasound isn't like an x-ray, it doesn't harm the baby, it's not ionising radiation. Good luck with TTC hope all goes well!

If you're worrying about having the scan, what would happen if you didn't have the scan? Would you feel better or worse not knowing what's going on?

I'd say it is unknown. Like most things, unless there is absolute evidence pointing towards it, you can't say for certain. Even if there is an association, that doesn't mean it is related. And no one is going to do a study on it.

I'd say not to worry about it. They give TV ultrasound in early pregnancy as you can't see anything on normal ultrasound. I had one at 5 weeks, didn't cross my mind, it's a usual procedure.

That’s the thing I need to know what’s going on as my HSG was fine but going by symptoms it’s looking like I have endometriosis and this scan was suggested as then I can possibly have surgery if it shows areas of possible endometriosis. I think I need to know it’s just with the timing (which I assume is that way as the tissue would have built up more towards the end of a cycle ) I’m just worrying but I think if I’m realistic it will be another month where I’m not pregnant

I just wasn’t sure if it’s the same type of scan as the dr said they can use something to check blood flow ? Or maybe that is the same as on a normal scan (I don’t really know much about it !)

I'm pretty sure they will be the same process @Endoscan. The blood flow to ovaries etc can be checked via the TV ultrasound. It's just a wand into the vagina either way (I've had them to explore unexpected bleeding)

Thank you that’s really reassuring. Hopefully I will get some answers so that will be really helpful in planning next steps as I feel like it’s taking forever

I was told that only the colour scans could possibly affect a early pregnancy and that's because the waves or whatever are stronger, I know hospitals do it so can't imagine it being dangerous but my private scans won't do it until further along 💖

I had exactly the same scan done to check for fibroids when I would have been about 5 weeks pregnant with my DD. Everything was totally fine and didn't affect my pregnancy at all ❤️
