Been ttc for 23 months (I have pcos and endo) and every single month I get a uti and need antibiotics! I drink plenty of water - go to the loo straight after etc but every month it’s the same is there anything that prevents it ?

@monthlyuti I suffer with UTI’s & your gut can really affect it. I have probiotics good bacteria pills from Holland & Barrett. They are expensive but you can get them with 20billion bacteria (the more the better) & it’s meant to help.

“There is increasing clinical evidence to support the use of probiotics in UTI management. The mechanisms by which they have an effect have been shown to include balancing the immune system, reducing the bacteria moving up from the intestines and preventing bacteria from colonising and surviving in the urinary tract.”

Thankyou I will definitely try those , I’m just so run down from it all and the constant antibiotics aren’t helping then I worry will uti bacteria / antibiotics be hindering conception and the stress just continues 😞

I had a UTI the first month we tried for DC1 and was worried it would be the start of something similar. I took cranberry supplements called Crammed, not every day just on the few days before the TTC sex and during, after etc. I also drank cranberry juice.

I'm sure your doing this but make sure as well as weeing straight after sex have a wash down there as well. Not sexy I know but it really helps.

Full sympathy as they are bloody horrible things x

Ask your partner to make sure he is washing himself properly.

I can completely sympathise with you. I have PTSD from a particularly bad UTI. Lots of luck x

Yes we def both are I’ve got so paranoid it’s literally just before a shower and then I have one after too and drink a pint of water to flush through and I’m still getting it. I’m wondering if the endo is somehow making me more prone ?

Have you thought about paying to see a urologist? I did this when I had one I just could not get rid of (4 lots of antibiotics) though I think it was mainly because docs were slow to give me antibiotics and then gave me 2 lots of ones that only last 3 days. They didn't find anything in my case but might put your mind at rest x

Amyb87 · 18/11/2023 21:09

I have the exact same problem.
I was referred to a urologist in the end who suggested to take one antibiotic tablet after sex which was my trigger.

It worked and prevented the uti.
I know it's still taking the antibiotic but not nearly half as many tablets.

May be worth a try

Erm, this is a bit embarrassing, but do you do any anal? I had ongoing issues with uti with ex-husb who insisted on it, but never with current partner who won't go anywhere near....
