Baby measuring a week behind at near 7 weeks :0

Hey everyone, I've been here for a while but this is my first time ever making a post, so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place etc. Where do I start lol

I had my period on the 11th of September, I tested positive on a pregnancy test on the 3rd of Oct. Its now 28/10/23 and from my calculations I should be 6 near 7 weeks pregnant. Someone please tell if my calculations are wrong from what I'm about to explain :(.

Had an early pregnancy scan today as my previous pregnancy was a partial molar, so EPU wants to keep an eye on me. Well!! Scan today showed a sac, yolk sac and fetus, with a heart beat <3 BUTT the baby was only measuring 5 weeks and 5 days :((( the woman doing the scan did not measure the heart beat, just said that it was present. I cant be 5 weeks and 5 days, it means I conceived after the positive pregnancy test, if my thinking is correct.

From googling, arm buds etc start to form on the baby around 7 weeks (which i think i am). In my scan picture (which I will attach) I think I can see the start of arm buds, so surely I can't only be 5 weeks 5 days pregnant. Could she have measured the baby wrong :( maybe I'm grasping at straws.

Sorry for the long post, I'm stressing out. I know I should stop as what will be will be and I can't change it, but it doesn't make it any easier. I don't even know what to expect from posting this. no one knows I'm pregnant, so I think being able to write this makes it abit better than keeping it to myself.

I think if there’s a heart beat and no concerns were raised by the scan technician, I would try not to worry. When I was pregnant with my DD, I had an 8 week scan and they dated her a full week and a half behind where I absolutely KNEW she was (I’d only had sex once the month I conceived!). At the 12 week scan, they duly confirmed that it was in fact the 13 and a half week scan and the dates righted themselves. My 8 week scan was private and I went back there for a gender scan at 17 weeks - same technician told me DD was a boy. At the NHS scan a few weeks later, they confirmed she was in fact a girl! So basically, that woman really wasn’t very good at her job. Bless her!

Thanks for replying. I booked a private scan for next week to see if there has been any growth. Hopefully there has been and I can put my mind at ease. Tho I'm not holding out much hope, I have zero pregnancy symptoms, never did from the beginning and now it's measuring small. I have 3 children already and now I seem to be suffering from fertility issues, last pregnancy was a twin pregnancy with 1 molar, other twin didnt grow. Now this pregnancy seems like it isn't growing as it should 🙁

This early, 1mm can make a massive difference to the 'age' of the foetus! I'd take the heartbeat as a positive and go with that until you have your growth scan. You might find that they've caught up ❤️ congratulations and best of luck!

Hey OP! Hope you're okay? So stressful this early isn't it!

I went for a scan thinking I was 5+6 - was 5+2, sacs and no HB.
Went back exactly a week later thinking I'll be 6+2. Was only 6+1 but saw HB.The panic of not exactly a week growth stressed me out! Would of meant I had a positive test before 3 weeks.. impossible. I went again thinking I would be 7+4 but was 8+1 and my dates finally matched up with my positive OPK 🙏🏼

I honestly think it's purely because they're far to little to get exact measurements at that stage.

Hi, similar happened to me with both my successful pregnancies, but I also didn't have a heartbeat detected at first scan on both at 6 weeks and baby measuring a week behind (and I was tracking my cycles really closely so pretty sure of my dates). Went back a week or two later for both and all was looking ok but still dating a bit behind. By the time I went for my 12 week scan my first pregnancy was measuring ahead by a few days and in my current second pregnancy (now 31 weeks) I was measuring a whole week ahead.

Easier said than done but try not to worry at this stage. Once a heartbeat is detected I was reassured pregnancy is much more likely to be successful

Reading this has put my mind at ease a little. My parnter is so chilled, thinks it will be fine and that the dates are out because its so small. I wish I had his mind frame, i have a doom mind framed right now and preparing myself for the worst.
I'm 33 and hes 40, I've read on Google that the risk of misscarriage rises once over 40 so I dont think that's helped settle me. I need to step away from Google 😂

Hope you dont mind me asking how things have progressed for you?

M0mto3 · 23/12/2023 06:15

It was a misscarriage, went back a few weeks later to be told their was no heart beat :(

But one thing I've taken from it, that scans aren't always correct. I choose natural misscarriage, I asked them to measure the sac, so I could determine how much pain I would be in. Scan the day before it happened showed the sac measuring 1cm×3cm. when it happened the sac measured around 6cm, so measurement are AWAY OF. Couldn't believe it, not accurate at all.

If your baby is measuring abit small doesn't mean it will turn out like mine, scans are not accurate it seems.

I had exactly the same thing happen where I had a positive pregnancy test before I apparently conceived. Dates were 2 weeks out at both early pregnancy AND 12 week scan. So I always felt my due date was 2 weeks later than it should have been. I was fairly certain of the dare i conceived and i knew the date of last period. Then at 20 week scan baby 'was measuring bigger'. So I had growth scans and was induced at 38 weeks as baby was getting big. Whole thing was pretty funny because baby was born 2 weeks before due date, on the day I worked out was my due date originally... don't worry too much. It works itself out. I wouldn't go to 42 weeks though. The 12 week scan is supposed to be very accurate at dating as certain organs are apparent on different days, so I've never understood it. But weirdly, exactly the same thing happened to my gp and his son was also born "early". We had a bit of a laugh about it before baby was born, but it made me feel better knowing I wasn't the only person this happened to.
