Short luteal phase - Vitamin B6 and C experiences?

Hi all! 👋🏻
I had an MMC in March with my first pregnancy at almost 10 weeks, miscarried naturally a few weeks later. Since then, my luteal phase has consistently only been 7 to 9 days. Blood tests have all come back normal and my GP isn't being particularly helpful, she just seems to act as if it isn't an issue and says it "may just get better in time".

I'm not really willing to keep waiting and hoping whilst doing nothing, so I've been reading about vitamin B6 and vitamin C and how they can possibly help to lengthen the luteal phase. I've bought some and started taking them yesterday, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experiences they'd be willing to share? Positive or negative experiences welcome, or any alternative suggestions! As my nurse (so kindly) said, I'm not getting any younger and I'm reluctant to keep waiting, despite my continuous asking for help. I tried another GP but they just said everything on the tests seemed fine and I'm probably getting my ovulation date wrong but I take OPKs and know I ovulate normally between day 14 and 17, and I start spotting 6 or 7 days later, with heavier bleeding starting approximately a day or two after the spotting begins.

Any help greatly appreciated! 🙏🏻

Hi! The two months I tracked ovulation with BBT my luteal phase was 11 days and then 9 days. I started vitB on CD3 of the next cycle and it seems to have worked well as I'm now 5 weeks pregnant from that cycle! 💕 I was taking vitB50 which has all the B vitamins in as you should take them together, and it worked out to 100mg b6 that I took (I took two capsules a day and didn't have any side effects except bright yellow pee 😅)

Hotmalibu94 · 24/10/2023 07:02

I was also going to start vitamin c but never got round to it 😂 so I can't comment on that one

Hotmalibu94 · 24/10/2023 07:19

Also I forgot to say 5 months of trying overall, pregnant the first month on vit b. Good luck!

I’ve been taking Vit C & Vit B complex. Last month my luteal was 10 days & this cycle it’s 13 days 😊 I ovulated a few days earlier.

DrCoconut · 24/10/2023 08:17

Having experienced B6 toxicity I would steer well clear unless you have medical advice and monitoring.

@Hotmalibu94 Thank you so much for your responses and congratulations!! Amazing news! This gives me hope!

@JulyT that's promising! Thanks for your response. 7 day luteal phase is honestly just wearing me down now so anything will be a great improvement x

@DrCoconut Thank you for your response. I've arranged another appointment with my GP for 2 weeks time so I'll chat with her then.

Vit b complex and also look at Agnus castus . I think this is why my lp lengthened. 2 dc to show fr it. Good luck!

spookybee · 11/11/2023 19:33

Hi guys just a quick update - got a positive test today! It's still very early days so I'm not getting too excited just yet but I really do think the vitamins helped to extend my LP enough for implantation to occur! 😍

@spookybee congratulations! Sounds exactly like me 😅 I'm now 8 weeks today 💕 fingers crossed for a happy and healthy 9 months for you 😁

spookybee · 11/11/2023 20:43

Eeee congrats! Thank you so much! Since my MMC I am so nervous but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. Happy and healthy pregnancy to you! X

Congratulations!! 🩷 🙂

JulyT · 11/11/2023 21:50

@spookybee ahh yay!! Did you take vit c & b complex? So happy for you x

spookybee · 11/11/2023 21:54

Thank you. I took Vitamins B6, B12 and C.

I got my positive test this morning and 2 more throughout the day (easy@home and FRER) however as of this evening I have had some reddish spotting when wiping after going to the toilet. I'm hoping it is just implantation but I'm not feeling confident sadly, just desperately hoping it doesn't come back.

@spookybee how many dpo are you?

spookybee · 11/11/2023 23:39

Only 9/10dpo. Spotting seems to have stopped (for now) but I get that the first few weeks are totally unpredictable. With my last pregnancy before the MMC I had 3 episodes of red spotting which turned out to be from implantation, so I'm really hoping it is just that again. 🤞🏻

Hotmalibu94 · 12/11/2023 07:56

@spookybee hopefully the bleeding is just implantation and your tests progress nicely! Fingers crossed for you x

JulyT · 12/11/2023 11:46

Everything crossed for you 🤞🏼🫶🏼

ellieolivia · 14/11/2023 21:25

sorry to jump on this thread - I also started vitamin b complex and vitamin c for short luteal phase this month and have tested positive last week ! Now I wonder should I continue to take or just stick with the normal prenatal?!
OP have you had any more bleeding? Hopefully just implantation bleeding 🤞🏼 x

spookybee · 15/11/2023 01:20

Congratulations @ellieolivia! I've read that you should continue taking the vitamins up to the 12 week point with the prenatals for B6 and vitamin C, but I'm not sure about the B complex. I'd personally contact your doctor if you can and ask :) I'm still taking mine for the time being.

Bleeding has stopped and tests are getting stronger on my end! I'm reluctant to get too excited just yet after my MMC in March, and so just taking it day by day at the moment.

Hi again @ellieolivia - I've actually just been reading into it a little more and I've seen a few people recommending pregnacare max. It contains all the vitamins etc needed without the larger doses, so I may move onto that.

OP posts:
ellieolivia · 16/11/2023 21:40

Thanks so much for this I picked up some pregnacare max today!
good luck with everything- it must be v anxious time after your MMC . Got everything crossed for you this time xx

spookybee · 17/11/2023 07:20

Thank you so much! Very anxious indeed but currently the lines are getting darker so that's some sort of reassurance for now.
I think hiding it over the party season is going to be extremely difficult and a huge fear of mine is people figuring it out and then something going wrong and having to tell people, so I'm going to have to get creative I think. Xxx

@spookybee im not pregnant but that is my fear if/when it happens too. I’m not drinking now to prepare my body to conceive but I’m going out with friends soon & have no idea what my excuse will be…I hate lying to my friends but was thinking of saying I’m on antibiotics for a sore tooth 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈
