3 negative tests turned positive ... plus lots of symptoms

Hi! I'm new here and this is my first post... but am driving myself crazy so thought I'd put my thoughts out there. Maybe I just need to write it all down for some clarity!

I'm on my first cycle of TTC but am not sure when I would have ovulated as I have quite a long cycle and wasn't testing for ovulation (around 38 day cycle). Had unprotected sex quite a few times over my 'fertile window' according to app (first time we did it was 18th Oct - last time we did it was 27th Oct). AF probably due between today and end of week, no sign atm.

For the past week and a half or so I've had the following symptoms:

  • Had about a week of weird cramps on and off starting 29th Oct – more intense/permanent-feeling for about 2-3 days then the occasional cramp/twinge for the next 4/5 days. I never normally get any noticeable ovulation pain.
  • EWCM on 1st Oct with a few streaks of brown blood in it. (Cramps continued after this for a few days)
  • VERY noticeable nausea - usually waking me up around 6/7am in a huge wave, and sometimes in the afternoon. Feels like sea sickness or something – very intense, hot-flushy rise of nausea before easing suddenly off.
  • Huge painful boobs – extremely tender/bruised feeling, bras are now tight, v painful nipples. Unusual for my standard monthly PMT symptoms.

Did a CB early pregnancy test on 6th Oct - negative. When I looked the next day a very pronounced blue line. Did another on 7th – saw the FAINTEST barely there (maybe not there?) line.... then after an hour, another pronounced blue line. Did a FRER on the 8th – negative... no lines appeared at any point on that.

Just did another CB early test today (11th) – again negative (or MAYBE the FAINTEST start of a line)... then a noticeable blue line starting to appear about 15 mins later. After an hour it was pronounced and very blue.

I realise I should really just wait another few days to see if AF turns up! Just driving myself crazy thinking should I drink or not.. should I tell my mum or not etc. as I'm due to see her soon and she'll know straight away if I'm not having our usual drink together!

Any words of compassion or wisdom ... MUCH appreciated 😃.

Thanks!

My tests showed up with the second line as soon as the time you had to wait had passed. Hope you are pregnant but doesn't 100% sound like it from what you've posted.

Thanks for replying! It's just I'd read a lot about the test only turning blue if there was hcg present etc. and what with the very noticeable symptoms was thinking it might just be too early to test.

Seems weird that it has happened with 3 CB tests in a row (over the course of a few days)... but don't really know what I'm looking for here as if it's too early to test it's too early to test 😆. I FOR SURE will not be testing until after AF is late in any future cycles!

Honestly those blue dye tests are a bit of a nightmare to try and decipher. Can you get a first response test? Or even a cheapy from Tesco? They're usually a lot more accurate and easy to read.

Desperateinseattle · 11/10/2023 16:02

I’d be very surprised if you’re not pregnant, one test having an evap line maybe, but all 3?

nah, I reckon so. Cautious congrats!

IsThatTheMoon · 11/10/2023 16:02

Thanks for the info! I'll try another brand next time... probs a cheapy one as I've wasted way too much money on expensive ones now haha!

@Desperateinseattle Thanks for your perspective! That's my gut feeling, too.

Every clearblue test I have taken has shown some kind of line after an hour or so when I have not been pregnant. Sadly they are evaporation lines and well known for them! A quick Google search will tell u this as lot of people complaining.

When I got pregnant the line showed up with in a couple minutes and that was at 10dpo.

This doesn't mean u won't be pregnant this month u just might not have enough hcg in ur system yet. Give it a couple more days then test again but don't look at tests after 5 minutes 😬

I think CB tests are notorious for producing evap lines after the time frame. I’ve done several in the past where that has happened. If it’s positive the line should come up within the 3 minute time window, however faint. I’ve always found pink dye or a digital test the best way to go as there’s less room for interpretation! And I know how horrendous it can be when you’re on the fence and unsure. I’ve got everything crossed for you though!

Thanks for your reply – that's really interesting. I had just read that evap lines are not coloured but your experience definitely seems to negate that! (Were the lines you got bright blue, to clarify?). Yup, probs a good idea not to check tests after the time frame yikes!

There's just so many conflicting stories and info out there! Thanks for your input 😃.

It is bloomin' torturous being on the fence! I wouldn't have thought much of the tests if I hadn't had such noticeable symptoms... fully aware that the mind can play tricks/we can notice things we usually wouldn't but these are not grey-area symptoms at all. I've been pregnant once before (accident) and I felt exactly the same. I feel I know my body really well and it'd be a huge coincidence to get these symptoms suddenly on the first time we're TTC.

Maybe I am not as many DPO as I thought? Could possibly not have reached 14dpo yet. Or maybe it is all just a coincidence! I'll update this thread either way in case it's helpful for anyone reading.

Really appreciate you (and everyone) sharing your experience!

Yes bright blue in colour sadly! Little buggers really get ur hopes up!

Chicky14 · 11/10/2023 17:43

Hey! I did a CB early and got a faint positive, turned out to be an evaporation line after 20 mins, so it’s best to read the result in the 5 minute mark. I’d say if you have all the symptoms order a pack of FRER on Amazon as they’re really reliable ☺️

HannahT93 · 11/10/2023 17:44

@IsThatTheMoon I know it’s no fun! Hopefully a pink dye test will confirm for you :)
