Spotting but no period

Hello,

I came off the pill 5 months ago and TTC. My periods took a couple of months to come back and when they started again, have only been around 2 days long.

This month, I've only spotted when wiping. Tried a pregnancy test on the first day of spotting and it was negative.

Was wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences they can share at all please?

Thanks!

This was/is me 😭

I came off the pill back in October 2022, had my first period in December 2022 and since then my periods have been 2 days long and on occasions 3 days, but very light. It was also roughly a 32ish day cycle. So I thought okay this must be my new regular flow and cycle.

Then in July I had my period which was 2 days but extremely light compared to normal. August came, no period showed so I took a test about 10-14 days after I had missed my period. Came back negative. Thought must just be a little blip in my cycle.

But then about 3 weeks after my missed period I started spotting ever so slightly, mainly when I wiped after going to the toilet, it would be a light brown colour and some days when it leaked onto my underwear I would put a pad on, check on it a few hours later and not a single mark on there 🤷‍♀️ this lasted about 4 days.

September came, no period happened. 😒
October, my period is due anytime now and still no show.😔

So I'm a bit of a loss really.

Sorry to hear you’re going through the same thing, it’s so stressful! Definitely would’ve come off the pill earlier if I’d known my cycle was going to be like this. Booked a doctors appointment for next week as I’m nervous that it’s PCOS

This is me too ☹️ and I've stalked enough threads on here now to know it's pill related... And that makes me really frustrated and upset.

Do you guys get any signs or symptoms of ovulation? Been tracking or anything like that?

I've never had symptoms of PCOS so I'd doubt it's that, but maybe! I'm still at the stage of seeming quite regular but absolutely zero proper flow. Definitely not normal.

I have found a few people on here who have managed to conceive with incredibly light periods though 🤞🤞🤞 and I do think those who are struggling are more likely to come on here than those that have had success stories. Really trying not to stress as know that will only make it worse, but it's hard!

And good luck with your appointment @TinyTraveller, let us know how it goes!

Definitely reassuring to here that there have been a number of people that have conceived with light periods!

Went to the doctors today and they said it can take a full year for your periods to regulate after being on the combined pill. That it only becomes a problem if you’re experiencing pelvic pain or strange discharge.

I asked but what about PCOS so they’ve taken some blood tests just in case which come back in a few days. However, even they can be inaccurate as your body takes quite a few months to re-regulate hormones after coming off the pill.

Such a tough one and such an emotional rollercoaster peeing on the stick every month for it to be negative. Sounds like a lot of people are going through something similar

Well done for pushing for the tests you wanted, good luck for the results. Do you have any symptoms of PCOS?

Really depressed today as first month of period just not arriving at all ☹️ (and not pregnant). At least other months there's been a tiny bit of something that's arrived semi-regularly, but now feeling like I've got no hope of things maybe being ok albeit a bit off. Cycle definitely now not seeming right...

TinyTraveller · 15/10/2023 22:15

Thank you lovely! Should get them back start of next week. I definitely noticed more hair growth on my arms etc after coming off the pill so I don’t know if that’s a symptom or just my hormones readjusting.

Sorry to hear this :( ! How long have you been off contraception for? I know it’s easier said than done but try not to panic too much as the doctor did say it can take some time for your cycle to regulate. I also worked with a call who had PCOS and no periods but managed to conceive!

I honestly never knew how much TTC would have such an emotional impact

Came off pill in May having been on it for around 10 years. So I know I should really chill out and just let things settle, but it's mad how quickly you become obsessed and worried.

I've also been stressed at work and think I'm starting to go a bit loopy with all this actually, so going to take a bit of a break from obsessing over my cycle and desp seeking reassurance from MN! I'll give it another month or two and see where I get to.

Best of luck 🍀

The doctor did say when I saw him
that stress plays a huge role in your cycle, more than people expect. So may even be worth taking some time off if you can to reset. Good luck 🤞
