Hi ladies as my fertile days are approaching I’m willing to try anything! Over 2 years TTC and hoping for a miracle..
I came across this fertilily cup online and was wondering if anyone has used it and how they are finding it? Has it worked? I’m in two minds of purchasing it just down to trying to get it in without making too much of a mess and then getting it out
Please let me know if you have tried it and your honest reviews xx

I used a 'fertilily' cup thing - I only used it for two cycles as I fell pregnant - so in that sense definately would recommend.

I did practice with it before I actually needed it as it was a little tricky to insert, but once I got the hang of it it's not too hard - it isn't super sexy putting it in though!

Getting it out also not so tricky, can be a tad messy though so (sorry tmi here) but better to do it in the bathroom rather than on the carpet. The thing is you are meant to keep it in for at least 30 minutes, which if you are TTC right before bed means staying awake until it's time to take it out which is super annoying. Important of course to rinse it between use, and boil it (awkward if you've got friends and family contanstantly in and out of your kitchen) between cycles.

Overall I'd say if you've got the money, give it a go and see how you get on with it. They do make some pretty big claims about the effectiveness so i'd say it's worth a try.

Doesnt it increase the chances of a UTI?

X

Gkb90 · 06/09/2023 18:20

@LavenderSweetPea I’m glad to hear it worked for you! I ended up ordering it off Amazon and it came today so I will definitely give it a try before I’m in my fertile week to get the hang of things

@40andtrying1 I’m not too sure if it does, when I’ve read some reviews I’ve not seen a mention of getting UTI from it

My advice if your going to try it without having sex first would be use some lube 😂

Moonlightsonatas · 06/09/2023 20:49

I used to pop my moon cup in after we DTD. It worked on the cycle I tried it, so it’s worth a shot.

Gkb90 · 06/09/2023 20:55

@LavenderSweetPea haha note taken! I’ll give this a go without DTD, practice makes perfect ey lol x

@Moonlightsonatas ah great to hear it was a success for you too, looking forward to giving this a go now x

@LavenderSweetPea & @Moonlightsonatas thank you for sharing your experiences! I’m also debating giving it a try…

I was just wondering how long you were officially TTC before you tried it?
x

LavenderSweetPea · 06/09/2023 21:30

@Yolo23 I have PCOS so my cycles were incredibly off and lasted forever. After giving up naturally fairly quickly, we done 6 cycles of leteozole, of which the last was successful but ended ectopic. After that we took a break for three cycles because of the treatment I'd had. Then we tried twice without fertility treatment, but using the fertilily and we're successful second time. So all told that was about a year

Yolo23 · 06/09/2023 22:35

@LavenderSweetPea thank you so much - it sounds as though the cup definitely helped in your situation!! I’ll definitely look into getting one for myself to have a go. Unfortunately I have endo, I’ve had a BFP chemical once, but we’re waiting to see a specialist so no harm in trying something new in the meantime 🥰 thank you xx

Gkb90 · 07/09/2023 00:07

@LavenderSweetPea I’m currently on letrozole also! This is my second cycle on 2.5mg x

Sorry TMI but I tried using it today and was a massive fail! I couldn’t get it in properly, I will try again tomorrow, still got a few more days till I’m in my fertile days to get the hang of it fingers crossed xx

Yes after intercourse it is recommended to use the bathroom and pre intercourse. Even without the cup the chances of UTI or other infections go up without emptying the bladder and cleaning.

I use a menstrual cup and it is a very clean procedure. You clean your hands right before inserting. The cup must be washed and placed in a very clean place also. And washed all the time and sterilised with hot water and vinegar after using.

LavenderSweetPea · 07/09/2023 07:25

Don't worry @Gkb90 it's a little tricky but you'll get there. I found using two fingers (one from each hand) a good technique - one to sort of poke it up and hold it in place then the other to flip the cup back inside out. You can see why I said it wasn't sexy to get in!

fairgame84 · 07/09/2023 10:05

I used it after 13 months ttc and I got my bfp first cycle using it. We were saving for ivf due to mfi.
We've just started ttc again and the first thing dh said was to order the jizz catcher 😂

LavenderSweetPea · 07/09/2023 13:25

😂the jizz catcher, lol! Glad it worked for you too. Fingers crossed for your second as well!

Gkb90 · 07/09/2023 13:52

@LavenderSweetPea again TMI apologies haha but I just found one side was just not staying in and it was just so fiddly, I saw other cups people were folding it but I don’t think the one I got can be folded

@fairgame84 so happy to hear it worked for you! Haha and the name jizz catcher is hilarious

My personal experience hasn't been great . I can't comment which exactly it was but I used the fertility cup once last month on ovulation day along with preseed applicator and I ended up with an infection and had to have antibiotics

Gkb90 · 07/09/2023 21:03

@MoonstoneGoddess I’m sorry to hear your experience wasn’t great, I was worried about infection too.. I have ordered pre seed also to use along with it

BatildaB · 07/09/2023 21:09

I tried it last month for the first time and plan on trying again this month, didn't hit the ideal day last month.. My experience was that it was tricky to get in when practising, but then I found it fairly straightforward after sex (if somewhat undignified...). HOWEVER I thought that if leaving it for a 'maximum of one hour' was ok then probably leaving it for an hour and a half would be fine and slightly boost my chances, so I stayed up late playing on my phone, and that was an error. If you've ever accidentally slept or showered in soft contact lenses and then had to peel them off your eyeball - it was like that but my cervix rather than my eye. I did eventually manage, but it took me about half an hour and was quite painful and upsetting! So, I've learned my lesson and will probably go for half an hour on the next try.

fairgame84 · 08/09/2023 07:04

@BatildaB ooh yeah I did the same. Never leave it in a bit longer.

@MoonstoneGoddess I used a mooncup once before I got the ferti-lily because I figured it would be the same thing and would save me buying one. I left it in all night like I would normally do for AF and ended up with bacterial vaginosis. It was awful because it delayed my hsg because you can't have it while you've got an infection.

LavenderSweetPea · 08/09/2023 10:11

@BatildaB I winced just reading this. I had no idea that's why they tell you only to keep it in for an hour. Hopefully future readers on this thread will make a note!

BatildaB · 08/09/2023 19:55

@fairgame84 glad/sorry to hear I'm not the only person to have made that mistake! And from reading your other experience I'm glad I did splash out on the fertilily as my original plan was also to try the mooncup all night plan.

@LavenderSweetPea yes I hope the cautionary tales save other people from doing the same... I'm sure I'd googled if it was ok and not found anything, so it does seem worth people knowing!

BatildaB · 12/09/2023 20:09

Hope you don't mind me reviving this conversation to ask if anyone has any thoughts or knowledge about which cycle days it's worth using the cup? If sperm can live for 5-6 days, does that mean it is worth using it from the beginning of the fertile period? I've just realised I'm not really sure what the sperm get up to for that time... if the cup helps some get over the cervix threshold then does that mean there are more of them that might then hang around for few days? Is it worth using every day/every other day leading up to ovulation, or just for the really likely days?

Gkb90 · 12/09/2023 23:13

@BatildaB I’ll be using mine every other day during my fertile period but maybe more so to the lead up to ovulation and after

OP posts:
missmoosh · 13/09/2023 14:10

@BatildaB just gonna chime in, on your comment lol. If you aren't sure what sperm get up to there is a fantastic albeit slightly old documentary called The Great Sperm Race, which goes through a lot of what happens.

Also I used the fertilily last cycle, no bfp but was 3 days late which has never happened before, in over 2 years trying, so wondering if I had a chemical. Would be the furthest I ever got if it was. I have used again this cycle as I like being able to get up and move around straight after! Whether it helps or not 😂
