Those who have had an IUD, HELP!

Hi, posting here mainly for traffic as I know it's not directly TTC related.

I've had my IUD for about 5 months & thought I better check it as I haven't done so since I got it fitted & when checking I can feel a hard/plastic bit at the opening of my cervix (and I don't think I can feel any strings). Is this a sign it has become dislodged? Should I contact my nurse to get it checked?

And I assume for the whole time it's been dislodged I haven't been protected from pregnancy (however long that's been!)?

I've had mine for 3 years and the strings soften and curl up around your cervix. My nurse said that it's common but if you are worried get it checked.

Yes you need to get it checked, particularly as you can’t feel the strings.

Thank you, that's good to know. I checked again & it feels like metal/wire & it's right at the opening of the cervix, no strings in the canal that I can feel. You're right, I might just to be sure, but most likely will be where it should be🤞🏼

If it feels like wire, they are your strings.

If you're in any way unsure just go get it double checked. You can just walk in to any family planning/gum clinic on open clinic days and get it checked where I am. Might be something similar in your area?

You might want to get it looked at all the same; mine disappeared up into my womb and eventually had to be removed with a hysteroscope (camera) - I wouldn't recommend this! Be better if they could pull it out now before it vanishes altogether.
They next one I had, they cut the strings extra long so this wouldn't happen again.
