Been TTC for 5 months... my husband has low motility and low morphology but only just! Feeling so deflated and sad about not being pregnant yet, as we managed to conceived DD who is soon turning 2 in our first month of trying!

I have also undergone full fertility testing privately and everything is fine: clear tubes, uterus fine, ovaries fine, checked I ovulate. We conceived our DD who is nearly 2 now in the first month of trying

I would put your husband on a supplement cocktail right away. It should improve in 3 months. If he smokes (nicotine and/or cannabis), he should stop that too. Drinking should also be kept to low/moderate levels.

My DH had low count, low motility and low morphology. I got him on a bunch of researched supplements and 2.5 months later the low motility and low morphology was in normal range (he still had low count).

Which supplements?
Mine takes Impryl (only started after results a month ago)

My DH's results were much worse than yours btw...

DJT30 · 22/08/2023 16:16

@CDiamond glad they've improved! Which supplements did he take?

I did a lot of research on this back when we first found out (January 2023). I looked up Impryl but it was missing some things in it that I wanted (based on my research). I have no medical background but I ran what I came up with past our fertility consultant who thought it looked fine (so you could do the same). Our consultants view was that this couldn't do any harm but also that it may not do any good (he said, sometimes these things work and sometimes they dont - when the cause is unexplained, it is hard to say what couldwork). Our result though was it did much improve DH's motility and morphology but not so much count (and this was 2.5 months into taking this daily).

Sorry I said 2.5 months in the morphlogy was in normal range but that isnt true (i've just remembered seeing the results). Morphology was improved 3 fold but still under normal range.

How old is your husband and is he overweight? We conceived DD1 with letrozole for my PCOS and DH semen analysis was fine at the time. He was 37 then and he's now 40. We went back to do another round of treatment this year and his morphology was low (less than 3%). Together we lost 12kg each on the fast 800, he cut back on alcohol and started taking wellman conception vitamins. We got pregnant naturally in the next cycle. So def worth trying some minor changes to see if it makes an easy win!

DJT30 · 22/08/2023 20:04

@CDiamond wow thank you so much for all the detail, will definitely look more into those!
Good luck to you on your conception journey!!!

@Sunnyshoeshine my husband is in his early 30s and not at all overweight but he's taken up going to the gym more (whilst avoiding cycling and rowing) and cut back alcohol to max 1-2 drinks per week (most weeks no drinks at all)

Your partners motility and morphology are better than mine.
I put him on all the recommended supplements and 3 months later he did the repeat and zero improvement.
A few cycles later we actually did manage to get pregnant naturally but I lost it very early, so it's definitely possible.

8 months later unfortunately I haven't been able to get pregnant again, although I also have my own fertility issues which are likely a contributing factor. Were currently awaiting to start ivf.
I started him on proceive sachets, not sure if they are if any help , probably not and rather expensive but if anything at least he's getting the nutrients he needs
