Is 500mg metformin enough pcos?

I was prescribed 1500mg by a different consultant.
Metformin regulated my periods and i have been ovulating on my own recently. I've been on it 6 months.
I had alot of issues 💩
So I asked new consultant to switch me to slow release and he agreed but he's knocked my dosage down considerably.
He's now only giving me 500mg slow release.
I'm worried that this is going to mess things up again and taking 500mg will make my periods irregular or stop again.
What dosage of metformin do you take?

Would the gp have the authority or willingness to alter my dose or will gp make me go back to consultant. Consultant won't invite me back tho as he's referred us away for ivf next year.
My gp told me before this isn't her expertise so I'm thinking she won't change it ?
Don't really know who I'm supposed to go to

I'd ask for a different GP, mine prescribed me 1500mg just fine

1500mg worked for me, less didn’t.
