Is it normal to get my period without a temperature dip?

My chart has been all over the place this month. I thoughti ovulated and so did FF app, i had all the signs but had negative LH tests, then later in the month i had the signs again and a positive LH test. Not sure if my body tried to ovulate then failed. FF app then moved the cross hairs to where they are now.
Today i got my period and i didnt expect this with no temp drop? Has this happened to anyone?
Its my first month fully tracking my BBT. I do have PCOS and know it is difficult to track a cycle but can anyone offer any advice on what any of it means?

I’ve learned this month that your temperature doesn’t always dip before AF. Mine only dropped on cd2 this month, after my period started. Led to a bit of false hope on my part about whether I’d get a bfp. Personally I’m not going to temp beyond confirming ovulation for that reason, as FF does say in the Q&A etc that the luteal phase temps don’t really offer much further information about the possibility of pregnancy. I suppose if they dropped below coverline 2-3 days before usual end of your luteal phase you might be able to predict AF and not suspect pregnancy, but temps staying high until or during AF doesn’t unfortunately tell you anything.

With PCOS you can get periods - despite not ovulating. I do - a period every 28 - 38 days ish. But I only ovulate a couple of times a year. I know this because I obsessively tracked my cycles for over a year with a thermometer and also cervical mucus. It can happen with a thick womb lining. Joy. 🫤

I've just had a period like that. My BBT chart actually looked triphasic (got my hopes up!) and I had all sorts of interesting symptoms during the two week wait. I have PCOS and suspect my hormones were out of kilter. My temperature has been all over the place since the start of my period! I suspect my last cycle might have been anovulatory (I had a temperature dip and a couple of decent strong lines on LH tests but no true positive so I figured I probably missed the surge, however my cervical mucus never changed properly... I looked it up and apparently cervical mucus can be dryer despite ovulating as you get older, but actually I think I may have simply not ovulated but tried to convince myself I had!). I have had anovulatory cycles before. I suspect that my "period" was more of a withdrawal bleed, which can mean that the next 'cycle' ends up a little out of kilter too. I've been using LH tests since the day I stopped bleeding and am keeping a close eye on cervical mucus in case ovulation comes at an odd point.

P.s. It might be worth contacting your GP about Metformin, which can help to regulate your hormones/cycles. Inofolic Alpha is also worth looking into (it's a supplement recommended by both private and NHS consultants).

I've just started Metformin again (I've only ever conceived while taking it!) and am also trying Inofolic Alpha... fingers crossed it sorts out my cycles soon!

Thank you for your reply! Yeah I mean I know I’m not pregnant, I just was unsure why my temp might not be dropping if it was a hormone issue or something. I was under the impression my temp would drop as the progesterone drops and then I would get my period. That makes sense, thank you for your help!!

@Poppins2016 thank you for your reply. Ah I see! I have definitely had annovulation cycles previously but this month felt different having had the egg whites twice in a month, my cervix being high and soft etc etc just it all pointed towards me ovulating at both temperature rises! And then I was always thinking I would get a drop when the progesterone drops but I guess that’s not the case! Thank you. I do take infolic alpha! This was my first full month on it so I’m hoping things improve over the next few months as I know it can take a while. Fingers crossed for you too!

@Fluffycloudsblusky thank you for your reply! I know I have definitely had annovulation cycles in the past I just always thought my temp would help me understand my cycle but it seems to have done the opposite and confused me more!! I track my cervical mucus too and had egg whites (a substantial amount too) twice this month and also track my cervix position etc. it really looked like I ovulated twice it’s so confusing but I don’t know if I ever did!!

It could be your were trying to ovulate but didn’t.
the book and website taking charge of your fertility is really good.
Or a natural family planning instructor. In person or online can be a super helpful way to find out what is going on.
