I'm 11dpo today and I have no pregnancy tests left!!!!! But I'm slightly driving myself mad and read somewhere that an opk will show up positive if you're pregnant.
I have opks so I used one and I've attached the picture. Am I just clutching at straws or could this be good news.

Ps. I have pregnancy tests due to be delivered tomorrow morning incase you wonder why I don't just go buy one!!!!

Yes it can happen, but that opk is negative. Opks measure LH which is always floating about in various levels throughout your cycle and many women, including myself, have some sort of line on an opk whenever they test. Sometimes LH spikes just before your period is due also.

Certainly doesn't mean you're out at all though! Good luck!

AlligatorPsychopath · 12/07/2023 12:10

Yes, but there's an LH spike before your period anyway. So a positive OPK really doesn't mean anything. That's a negative OPK, in any case.

You can't use OPKs as pregnancy tests. Only pregnancy tests can tell you if you're pregnant.

@SparkyBlue was it a strong positive like when you're ovulating? Or did it look more like my picture do you mind me asking xxx

I found out I was pregnant from an OPK. I took one which showed only a slight line. I repeated it 2 days later and it was very strong. I then bought a clear blue test which confirmed I was pregnant.

You could have got exactly the same result if you weren't pregnant, though. There is very commonly an LH spike before your period. All you can find out from an ovulation test is whether you have a lot of LH or not, which is not the same thing.

@AlligatorPsychopath
I was just interested to know if it had happened to othe people or not, I know a missed period and a positive pregnancy test would be the most reliable way.
However I'm delighted to see it's happened to at least 2 ladies out there which gives me hope 😊 I cant give up hope ttc or I'm done for 😪

@Maybebaby12345 I think what people are trying to say is that OPK is a stark negative anyway.....BUT obviously that doesn't mean you're out yet.

Maybebaby12345 · 12/07/2023 12:45

Thanks everyone 😊

I got a positive OPK when pregnant but I only tested the theory at around 5 weeks so don't know when the positives would have begun

SparkyBlue · 12/07/2023 12:57

@Maybebaby12345 mine looked like yours. Best of luck and keep us updated. TTCing seriously messed with your mind so I totally empathise

naggy095 · 12/07/2023 13:02

Happened for me in my previous pregnancy, this pic is from 13dpo

Not true - an ovulation test is how I found out I was pregnant! I was most definitely not ovulating and 4 days later (3 days before my period) I got a positive pregnancy test. So that was a positive ovulation test 7 days before my period - too long for it to have been a spike before a period. My doc confirmed that ovulation tests can be used to detect very early pregnancy but that it just can’t be relied upon in case it's detecting actual ovulation

AlfietheSchnauzer · 12/07/2023 15:23

In other words ovulation tests CAN & DO detect HCG but also detect LH

mumofboys8787 · 12/07/2023 16:30

Is there a reason you won't just take a pregnancy test?

mumofboys8787 · 12/07/2023 16:30

Sorry ignore me, missed the end of your OP!

Maybebaby12345 · 12/07/2023 16:36

@mumofboys8787 they're enroute for tomorrow!!! I'm just so desperate at this point that as I'd heard it somewhere I thought I'd try!!!
I'm only 11dpo so I know I'm not out yet, but each month that goes by just feels longer and longer.

Thanks for the replies everyone, in holding onto hope ❤

I took an LH test at the same time as I got a positive pregnancy test just out of curiosity but it was a proper positive LH test. Yours is negative. Mine were never lighter than yours through my whole cycle. I did also get dark lines a couple days before AF but not so dark it was positive

best to wait for your pregnancy tests 😊
