Help! Late period but negative pregnancy test - age 41

I’m going out of my head here!

My period was due on Monday 10th (posting on Wednesday 12th). It hasn’t arrived. All pregnancy tests are negative.

I have just turned 41 and ttc.

I usually have a 26 day cycle but last month it was only 23 days which was weird.

I was pregnant late last year until January this year when I sadly had to have a termination for medical reasons at 18 weeks. It was devastating.

My periods returned immediately and were fine and we have been ttc since February (tbh it would have been good to have more time to process everything and grieve but at my age - then age 40- we didn’t have time to do so).

I usually have a 26 day cycle, sometimes it is shorter. It has never in my life been longer. I’m never ever late.

I’m terrified if I’m not pregnant that these erratic periods might be a sign of early menopause meaning I’ll never have a baby and given what we went through earlier this year that just devastates me.

Has anyone got any advice- is it possible I could be pregnant with negative pregnancy tests or more likely my body getting older? What can I do to be sure, are there very sensitive pregnancy tests that are recommended so I know for sure that I’m definitely not pregnant?

Sorry for rambling it’s just with our loss I’m going out of my head and this limbo feels extra cruel.

What kind of test did you use? I think officially a 'late' period is one that hasn't arrived at least a week after you're due. So 2 days either way isn't very meaningful.

I totally get your worry, but a period being 2 days late definitely does not mean that menopause is on the way.

Maybe you could consider a fertility MOT so you have more information about your ovarian reserve?

I'm 39 and having IVF so I totally understand your worries.

And I'm so sorry to read about your TFMR. I had surgery for a MMC earlier this year. I know it's not the same thing but I empathise Flowers

Thanks @countrypunk I am sorry to hear about your MMC and I wish you all the best with your IVF - I’m rooting for you!

We are in the process of getting a fertility MOT, my egg reserve wasn’t great last time we ttc but I got pregnant quite quickly.

Test wise I used cheapie Mom Med ones and then a standard Clearblue.

@Fourlegsandatail Aw thank you.

If you used a clearblue and you're beyond period due date, I would say you're not pregnant. I'm sorry, it's shit isn't it. You could use a first response early result to be absolutely sure? I think they're the most reliable.

remember if your fertility MOT says you have a low AMH it doesn't mean you can't or won't conceive - it just means you have fewer eggs left.

I really hope you get there. You got pregnant naturally before, you can again!
