Painful sex after c C-section and irregular periods

I’m not ttc posting it on here to see if anyone’s has similar since coming off the pill…
I had a c-section with my daughter 2 years ago and since then sex has been really painful, we’ve tried lube that’s not the problem because it’s definitely not dry down there.

Fast forward to December last year I’ve come of my pill to give my body a break and since then my periods have been quite irregular around as long as 48 day cycles.
Then today I’m on cycle day 41 and we’ve just done the deed and it was so painful I can only describe it like someone forcing something sharp hard into me as far as it will go.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the painful sex.

Has anyone else had similar experiences to this?
Im going to wait until next week to see if my period arrived and if not I’ll go to the doctors about it and the pain.

just to note I’m 25.

I had an emergency c section 2 years ago and its ruined my periods and sex.

Before the section I had really mild pms, medium flow, exactly every 28 days and really obvious ovulation. And I had 3 vaginal births and my period always went back to normal after.

Then came the section.
My periods since are anywhere between 24 and 30 days, they are incredibly heavy some months and shorter at about 3 or 4 days instead of 5 or 6. I have a lot of cramping and back ache and I no longer have any symptoms of ovulation each month.

The weirdest part (TMI) is that when we have sex, my husband often finds that even tho I'm not at all dry, he can't actually get in there and when I tell him to keep trying, it hurts sometimes. We've been married 13 years and never ever had anything like this happen before the section.

Now that we are ttc again, I've made an appointment with my gp about it. I know it's stupid that I've waited this long but I just thought it might sort itself out after enough time passed.

@Maybebaby12345

I’m kind of glad I’m not the only one that’s having this problem.
I can’t remember what my periods were like before the pill because when I came off it to have my daughter luckily I got pregnant straight away.. then after I had her I went straight back on the pill so always had bleeding every 29 days (which was obviously just withdrawal bleed not a period)
Im the same when it comes to us having sex since my c section my other half has said it’s tighter but don’t know if I’m just tensing cause I know it’s gunna hurt.

ive just spoke to the doctor they’ve asked my to come in for some swaps for Chlamydia. I’m fuming I’ve been with the same partner for 8 year I told her the pain only came on since I had my c section and she’s just ignored that! I don’t know if it’s because I’m young she just assumes I’m going to get STDS. We’ll see what happens.

hopefully you get better understanding then me x

This is what drives me insane about drs. They go to their first thought without listening!!! I'd love to know if there are more women who have had this same issue after a section.
I know my issues started after my section too and my husband and I are 13 years married so my dr better not suggest an sti as the primary cause!!!

Maybebaby12345 · 06/07/2023 12:32

I have an app for tomorrow morning so I'll update you with how it goes and what I find out

Maybebaby12345 · 06/07/2023 12:35

www.inquirer.com/philly/health/womenshealth/Pain_during_sex_more_common_after_a_C-section.html

Just found this which is eye opening

Maybebaby12345 · 06/07/2023 12:36

And this too!!!!

Painful sex after c C-section and irregular periods
Maybebaby12345 · 06/07/2023 12:38

Sorry, this is my last post I swear 🤣🤣🤣
I've looked up signs of low estrogen and I have quite a few. I had no idea 1 in 4 women have these issues after a section!!!!

Lauren8642 · 06/07/2023 12:44

@Maybebaby12345 that’s quite a lot of women who suffer from it then! When I google about it alot is talking about pain after like recovery not 2 + years down the line

From what I've read so far, it seems that if its caused by hormonal changes after the section, the pain will last as long as there is a hormonal imbalance. But to be fair I know absolutely nothing about any of this so I'm very much looking forward to my gp app tomorrow to hopefully get some answers.

@Maybebaby12345 Just an update went to the doctors this afternoon she did the swaps and examination. She said that they have to do the swaps anyways because if I was referred to gyno they would request it.
She didn’t say much about the examination but it was hurting when she was pressing around my tummy and scar whist doing it more so on my left side which she said something was thicker that side (can’t remember what) she’s referring me for a transvagina scan which I’ll be getting a letter for with a date not sure how long it will be hopefully not too long but then again I have waiting 2 years already! And I’ve also got some bloods booked in for next Thursday to check why my periods are irregular.

I'm really glad they've done more than just see if you have an std!!! At least you will get some proper answers!!! I really hope you get the scan and blood results soon!!!

Maybebaby12345 · 07/07/2023 22:21

Update! I was at my gp today. She said even tho its relatively common for women to have low estrogen after a c section, it's never told to women in the hospital so they don't know to look out for signs of it and just presume that's how life is after a section if they do suffer with the symptoms of it.
She said whilst she cant say for sure until blood work comes back, that's what it sounds like. She did various other checks and asked lots and lots of questions and nothing else came up. She said if blood work comes back normal she will refer me for scans etc so we will see what happens in the next few weeks

worldwidetravel2017 · 08/07/2023 13:04

Have you ever had fibroids?

I had a transvaginal scan & they found a fibroid..

worldwidetravel2017 · 08/07/2023 13:05

Fibroid/s can cause pain & period issues

Lauren8642 · 08/07/2023 16:39

@worldwidetravel2017 no what are they?? X

OP posts:
worldwidetravel2017 · 08/07/2023 17:21

Push 4 a transvaginal scan

Fibroids are common & non cancerous

They can cause bad periods , fatigue, pain during sex etc

I have one ..

Depending on their size & position - sometimes they get removed

Gp will put you in 4 a scan if you explain symptons

Also - wait might be while 4 nhs
But if you ask 4 ca125 blood test _ ovarian cancer blood test ' if you ever get bloating - if that result comes back abnormal - it will speed it allup & youllget scan within 2 weeks

Ca125 can be an inflammation marker..

Fibroids , cysts etc can cause inflammation ..

Also transvaginal scan means ya ovaries and uterous etc. Gets checked - always gd

Lauren8642 · 08/07/2023 17:27

@worldwidetravel2017 I went to the doctors on Thursday and she’s referred me for a transvagial scan just need to wait for the letter and then I’ve got bloods booked in Thursday so hopefully will have some answes

OP posts:
worldwidetravel2017 · 08/07/2023 17:34

Ask if bloods are ca125

If not
Ask them to test ca125

Honestly - will speed uo wait 4 scan
Unless shes already put it in as urgent
