Had a period - Straight to static smiley - positive pregnancy test?!

I just had my period. It was a bit lighter than usual but definitely what I thought was a period.. I started using my advanced clear blue ovulation tests earlier this month on day 7, as last month I went straight from empty circle to static so thought I had tested too late.
But this time I’ve had no empty?! first day of testing, I get a static smiley. I did my cheaper ovulation strips too and it’s positive 1.19
i had one cheapy pregnancy tests here so I did it and it’s positive..
has anyone had this before? I’m going to buy another pregnancy test today but not getting my hopes up as I’m pretty sure it was a period 😔

What made you test straight after a period?
I'd wait a few days and test again.

i was doing my ovulation tests? And it was a static smiley straight away. I had no empty circle. So I just thought I’d do a test not expecting it to be positive

Are you currently on day 8?
Did these come up straight away?

SJR86 · 04/07/2023 07:16

This happened with my first pregnancy. I have short cycles so the clear blue ovulation kit sugested I start testing on day 6 after my period started. Two and a bit weeks later I had a positive pregnancy test!
My daughter is now two and a half - fingers crossed for you @Katyx6

Mammyloveswine · 04/07/2023 07:18

That's def a positive! Congratulations!

ZickZack · 04/07/2023 07:20

That's definitely a positive, op. The bleeding might have been implantation bleeding, especially as you've said it was lighter than normal.

NanooCov · 04/07/2023 07:23

This happened to me. The resulting sun is now 8.5 years old. Bodies are weird things!

NanooCov · 04/07/2023 07:24

Ooh that was a lovely typo - should have been "son" but "sun" equally appropriate as he's awesome.

Katyx6 · 04/07/2023 09:47

So looks like I am pregnant 🥰🥰 so shocked as I was convinced I had a period. Should I be worried as I had bleeding for 4-5 days? Not sure whether to phone the gp for a blood test

A friend of mine continued to have "periods" throughout both of her pregnancies. It does happen. Congratulations!

lostfrequencies · 04/07/2023 09:58

Congratulations! I would probably contact the GP. They could do bloods or refer you to the early pregnancy unit for a scan due to the bleeding.

Katyx6 · 04/07/2023 14:33

Doctor was useless.. told me he won’t be needing to do bloods for hcg as I don’t have pain and bleeding has stopped and just to do another pregnancy test in a week. I’m surprised as I thought I would need hcg tested! 🥺

had this. a very light bleed which turned out to be implantation bleeding. she's now 18 months old.

Bells3032 · 04/07/2023 14:38

Generally doctors don't do blood tests as they're no more accurate than the pee tests.

Katyx6 · 06/07/2023 06:14

I worked out I’m 21 dpo today, and I think I must have implanted around 12 days after ovulation when I had the bleeding and I had a heart rate drop also. I did yesterdays test in the evening about 5 and todays test I did on my first wee in the morning. It’s lighter.
I am getting some small amounts of brown discharge, this on top of knowing I had a few days of bleeding that I thought was my period and line fainter this morning 😞 I’m just so worried

Congrats. Honestly people place too much emphasis on the darkness of lines but if you read the leaflet they're not meant to be taken like that. Lots of things can affect the darkness of the lines and some people just have a greater surge of hormones later in the day or they're more dyhdrated. Brown blood is generally fine and very common early on too so please don't stress. Fingers crossed for you that it's all fin

Emiiiixxxx · 06/08/2023 17:22

@Katyx6 Hey, what was your outcome ? I saw you were pregnant and your line got lighter and that doctors didn’t help you?

K1989x · 07/08/2023 22:23

@Emiiiixxxx I sadly had a chemical pregnancy. Lines kept getting fainter and had a negative test by 20dpo. I haven’t had any bleeding though and no sign of my period yet 😔 so just in limbo waiting x

K1989x · 07/08/2023 22:24

@Emiiiixxxx 23dpo I mean! x

Emiiiixxxx · 01/09/2023 17:42

@K1989x i am sorry to hear that. I asked because the same thing happened to me so I thought it might be the case. However I 2 months later I just got my BFP but I’m now so scared . For the last few hours I have had a constant twinge on my left side of V which I also felt with the chemical and I have no clue if this is normal or not . So scary . I really hope this is my rainbow

K1989x · 01/09/2023 18:53

@Emiiiixxxx congratulations! Hope all goes well for you 💕 I actually conceived straight after my chemical too with no period inbetween. I’m now 6 weeks pregnant, had an early scan today 🥰

Confusedddddddd · 02/09/2023 15:26

I don't want to scare you but I had this, I saw go as I was really confused as I had a 'period' though mine came earlier than usual. I didn't know how far along I was etc.

GP mentioned if you have heavy bleeding in early pregnancy you should be referred for an early scan. At the scan they couldn't find pregnancy and it turned out to be ectopic.

I have a few friends that have had them and they all had bleeding around the time of their normal period that they assumed were periods.

I honestly would ask for a scan even if just for piece of mind. One of my friends had to be rescucitated because of a ruptured ectopic. It likely isn't ectopic as they are only like 1% of pregnancies but the earlier you know the better.
