Getting pregnant after the mirena coil.

My husband and I have decided that we are going to try for a third baby. I had the mirena coil inserted about one year ago and have not had any bleeding/periods in about 9 months. We want to start trying around Janurary next year. When do you think I should get the coil removed? Does it take a while for periods to come back? How long after the coil removal did you get pregnant? Thank you!

I had a mirena in before we had our first. I took it out at the end of October that year (2017) and was pregnant March (2018). My periods came back almost immediately. I’d not had any for the years and years prior whilst having them in (it was my second)

I hope that helps 🙂 I would take it out a few months before and switch to condoms if you’re not wanting to start then

I had the merina for 6 years, was due to get it out in 2020 but due to covid I found it hard to get an appointment to get it removed finally had it removed in nov of 2021, I had regular periods while I had the merina with the exception of a few odd cycles of 30-50 days and they weren't heavy periods would only last 3-4 days, I had removed and a week later I had a 2 day light bleed and then 27 days later I had my 1st normal period and from then I had a regular cycle of 27-28 days so cycles came back pretty much straight away

We weren't trying for a baby but we weren't preventing either it was if it happens it happens kinda thing 🤣 roll on March of this year we found out we were pregnant with baby no.3 so really all in all it took a year and 3 months for me to fall pregnant but not actively trying, hope this helps 🥰

Technically you can get pregnant just by taking it out if you’ve recently had sex and you’re due to ovulate. I took mine out end of August and conceived in October. I had a withdrawal bleed and one period.

My period came back straight away and I was pregnant 3 months after removal ended in MC but still Mirena didn't have any effect

Got mine out in early Oct, had a small withdrawal bleed a few days later, then settled to a regular 27 cycle till I got a positive PT on Christmas day, I was surprised how quickly as I was overweight and 37!

2nd baby more complicated as I got it out in Nov, same withdrawal bleed a few days and settle down, but then our circumstances changed for a bit so we had to go back to using condoms for 4 months, but I got pregnant the very first cycle back trying. A big surprise as I was fatter and older than the first time!!

Similar to PPs, I had my first mirena coil out and period came back immediately. Fell pregnant within 2 cycles, unfortunately ended in mmc but then pregnant with DS after another 2 cycles. I've recently had my second mirena coil removed for TTC DC2 and period came back straight away again. Good luck OP!
